Allegators!

I recently scored of the near fantasical and phenonomenal game Animal Crossing: Wild World for the Nintendo DS. I just can't stop playing it. The Nintendo DS is an amazing machine with great games. Let's exchange friend codes ans maybe we'll meet sometime? I personally have Mario Kart and AV:CC, and have ordered Metroid Hunters and Tetris DS. Friend codes follow:

ACWW: 3737-3061-6908
MKDS: 219103-797431

Anyone have any idea why I can't get DS to link up to my wireless network? It doesn't list the network even though broadcast is on. I also tried manually entering all the data, but still nothing. The router is both wireless b and g, and I've had no trouble with my PDA connecting.

Probably your wireless security is using WPA instead of WEP.

Nope, it's using just standard WEP. Besides, it should still at least see SOME signal, whether it can even connect to it or not is a secondary issue at the moment.

I tried it at school, and it connected no problem (but no one worldwide was around to compete with in metroid o_O).

I haven't yet tried Wi-Fi still, although I have Mario Kart DS, and going to buy Metroid later this month (slightly empty-pocket after finally buying a Nokia N90 which, unluckily, isn't very USB friendly with Linux).

Do you have a firewall blocking connections? That is common to prevent people stealing your bandwidth, something easy to forget.

Is your wifi using an unsupported channel or is it set to 802.11g only? I dunno if the DS has 11g or not, but if its only 11b, it won't be able to see signals advertised as 11g only.

It's set to mixed mode, and the channel is... let me check. It's channel 1.

There is a firewall but it only blocks incoming connections. There is also a MAC filter, but I've added the mac address. However, neither of those prevent you from seeing a wireless connection (I was able to see this with wireless b card in a laptop that was brought over, even though they couldn't log in, they could see the network).

I have mine on channel 11. And you might want to check www.NintendoWiFi.com to see if they have any information on it.

You might even need to reset the router as well (I had to do myself recently).

Nintendo has a small program that lets you test if your Wi-Fi connection is compatible with the Nintendo DS. It only runs on Windows XP, though.

(Edited: They seemly removed the program once NWF went live, will check on Monday to see if I have it somewhere at work. Hopefully, your router won't be blacklisted by Nintendo)

Ah, thanks for that link. I have that actiontec modem that needs a firmware upgrade. Kinda scared to do that though. Maybe when I feel daring.

Just to make sure, is the WiFi device advertising its name? You can set them to not give out its name, to make it a little harder to find and connect to.

I'm not getting my DS Lite until in a couple of weeks or so. :(

[EDIT]
It arrived! Go Lik-Sang! :D
I probably won't be able to find a WiFi network until this thread closes though. Yarr.

What's different with the DS lite compared to the DS?

Smaller form factor and a much brighter screen.

It is "iPod cool" too, if you care about that. I would buy one for the brightness levels... but it depends...

Looks a lot better, and better plus-pad/buttons, imo. Supposedly has brighter screen and bigger stylus (despite smaller unit).
