There are very many Doom ports which use Allegro. One of which is Boom, http://teamtnt.com/boompubl/getit.htm, another of which is DOSDoom for which the web page is temporarily unavailable but should be http://www.frag.com/dosdoom, and a third of which is Doom Legacy, http://legacy.newdoom.com/. Ah yes, the one I remember was DOSDOOM. Funny, a search for "Doom" doesn't yield it. Gonna try it out, I hope it has software wavetable for its music. -Ed |

Vavoom uses Allegro on DOS (works on DOS/Linux/Windows) and uses Direct3D/OpenGL |

Little toy that can be used in conjunction with Legacy (or some other "engines") to play online with DOOM. Sadly, I don't have DOOM 2, which GREATLY narrows my chances of playing, heh. NOTE: The spell checker picks up "online" as a misspelled word.

DosDoom was cool, but the best is realy Vavoom. With vavoom, Doom isn't anymore a 2½D game, it's a true 3D. 3D model are available for download, replacing the old 2D sprites for anything in the game. A little utilitary build visual data from WAD, to convert old 2D map in true, 3D level, with real lightning. Many enhancement have been added to this port, like transparency (it was in the old DosDoom although), 3D models, Skybox, 3D Sound (using OpenAL), advance lightning, and many more. Vavoom is truely a must for FPS amateur. And one of it biggest advantage, it support all Doom version, heretic and its expansion, hexen and its expansion and Strife (don't know whats this). Available for DOS, Windows and Linux

Okay, not Allegro-related, but I plan on maybe reporting it back to DOS using Allegro. Once the next version is complete, though. -- |

Or go to a place with a really large software bargin bin. likely to find old games in there. Or at a pawn shop... maybe. -- |

I don't have the *.wad file and it takes too long to download a demo version of any Dooms in order to just get the WAD file:(. I ended up deleting Legacy because of this matter. I'd d/l it again if I could get a WAD file without having to d/l a demo version of Doom or the others it mentions just for the WAD files.

I wonder if "ultimate doom" will be renamed to "penultimate doom" when Doom 3 is released... -- |

Harbinger ZERO: The bulk of doom's download size, even in the demo version is the wad file, so if you are downloading it just for the wad then the extraneous files are negligable. --- |
