The Press Release I wonder what people's views here are... Reading about it on the web, I find a lot of ironic thoughts. Just last month, you ask a GC fanatic, what they thought of Rare - they would have said "One of the best 2nd party developers Nintendo has!" Now, you ask a GC fanatic, and they think Rare is just a company that is past it's prime and Nintendo still 'r0x3rs' and Xbox still sucks because, well, of course it must, because my l33t friend said it did! |

A bit gushing, in the way of all true press-releases. Pete

That is part of the plan, unfortunately I don't have a GBA yet, or an online server (plus PHP skills) which are a crucial part of my scheme to port Allegro to lots of new platforms The GBA could comfortably handle most of Allegro, it would be a full port, which may or may not be suitable (depending on size) for inclusion directly in the Allegro lib. |

Woohoo! Perfect Dark 2 on XBOX! WOOHOO no more Rare wasting time on cartoony games with Nintendo's Mascot. Matt, just get VisualBoyAdvance, it's a good GBA emulator.

Conker and Perfect Dark belong to Rare. Donkey Kong belongs to Nintendo.

Unless Microsoft has plans for their own handheld system, it wouldn't be surprising if they allowed 2nd party developers to develop GBA games. I'm not sure which games / characters are all owned by Rare. Obviously enough of them are being transfered to Microsoft for them to shell out big $ for it. |

Conker and Perfect Dark were creations of rare. The Kongs were created by Shigeru Miyamoto.

It was a joke, but I took it down because it didn't look "right". I just thought it was interesting that my post had been edited for content is all. What are we even doing here if thats the case? The powers that be and all...... |

My early memories (all four or five years after the event, I'm not that old) of Ultimate Play the Game are of a reputation of innovation and technical excellence with all the usually quoted examples - JetPac, Lunar Jetman, Sabrewulf, Knight Mare, etc. My memories of Rare as a nintendo controlled company are of increasingly formulaic and correspondingly dull platform games. I hope they return to form now that Microsoft are in charge, but if they are planning to release titles for the X-Box only, I don't suppose either myself or anyone I've ever met will ever know [My site] [Tetrominoes] |

Quote: Lunar Jetman Solar Jetman, you mean. At least in North America. I still have that game, along with a lot of other Rare games that top my favorites list. I heard about this a week ago; not sure what to think of it yet ..... Rare is the greatest. -- |

Quote: Too bad about Perfect Dark 2, that sounded like something I'd want to get Hmm It's too bad all round really when a good developer gets bought out and then only works for one platform exclusively... that's why i thought that comment about 'pushing the envelope of creativity' bit was kinda kaka I mean they did back in the day but I bet they won't now that Big Brother is looking over their shoulder... |

I'll make this a link now so I don't keep wasting everyone's bandwidth. Quote: Do you really think they are going to stop producing games for the gameboy advance just because M$ bought them? I doubt it. Well, from Matthew's press release up there .... Quote: Under terms of the $375 million cash transaction, Rare will today begin creating exclusive console gaming blockbusters for Xbox. s0x0r -- |
