Is there a tool (official or not) out there for generating bitmap fonts in the format Allegro 5 expects?
I realized there was the TTF addon so I ended up just using that.
The quality isn't great, though. Consolas for instance doesn't look as nice as usual, it's like the thickness is inconsistent. Is there any way to improve it?
Yes, turn anti-aliasing off. ALLEGRO_FONT_MONOCHROME or something like that when you load it.
That made it worse. I tried out the Bold variant and that helped. Still looks kinda bad, though.
As documentation says bitmap flags will affect the way fonts are rendered. You should play with such flags to find the best combination for your case.
