For the past 6-7 months myself and some others have been working on porting Monster 2 to the iPhone. We've made a ton of improvements to the game, as well as redoing 95% of the graphics, remixing/adding lots of music and making the interface iPhone friendly. The game isn't in the App Store just yet, there are a few loose ends to tie up and some final testing to be done.
Anyway, credit is due to a lot of people, but most of them don't use these forums. However, thanks to Matthew Smith who drew the battle backgrounds.
Here's the video. Let me know what you think.
I'm impressed even if no one else is.
Well done...
If I could afford(/want) an iPhone I would buy your game.
Thanks. I'm soo looking forward to this game being on the app store. I want to start a new project, dammit. I've been working on this for over two years. The end of a project really is the hardest to get through, IMO...
looks very nice, should do well on the iphone, looking forward to it.

I think it'll do well.
Looks nice. If I had an iphone I might play your game while taking the bus or something.
I've been working on this for over two years.
2 years is nothing.. I started paintown in 2004! But I haven't worked on in it continuously..
Looks fun. What is it going to cost?
Thanks. I haven't decided between 99 cents or 1.99. Maybe you guys could help me
.
Any other RPGs on the iPhone that you can use as reference for the price?
Just having a quick look, it appears that most of the RPGs range from .99 to 4.99, almost an even distribution except I didn't see any that were 3.99. Looking at some of the game screenshots, I'd say a lot of them probaby outclass ours in graphics, if you like the modern style, which most gamers probably do (this is not a knock on our artists, whom I know if the size restrictions are lifted can produce some really amazing stuff -- I've seen it). We worked with a lower than native resolution for our game. I think gameplay wise we have something really nice though. But it's still tough to say. I'm still stuck between 99c and 1.99. 99c almost feels too cheap to me though. A lot of the 99c games in the app store look like small gimmicks that were made in a couple months. We have a fair bit of depth to our game, so I'm leaning toward 1.99.
If you feel 4.99 is too high, what about 3.99? 1.99 feels too low to me tbh.
Well battle for wesnoth is on there at 4.99, so you may be right
... what do you think about 2.99 then?
Why not try at 3.99 for a couple months, see how it goes. Then drop to 2.99 if you want to increase sales.
Theres a lot of guides out there these days on how to manage an iphone app.
Looks great! Good luck. Let us know how much money you make
And don't forget to send me 15% of gross sales as mandated by the agreement you signed when you registered for this site.
He never registered the iPhone version of his app. You're agreement only applies to games/programs submitted to allegro.cc.
But it covers 15% of any money you ever make doing anything.
Ok, let me first calculate my expenses, such as software and artists... look like you owe me some money
.
Sorry, but it covers gross sales, not profit.
When people play this game, a lot of them find the beach battle really hard. I recorded a video (this time on the actual ipod device) playing the beach battle. I screwed up in one part and used a spell on two enemies instead of just the one I wanted... but it made no difference really. I couldn't upload it to youtube because it's 22 minutes long, so I uploaded a flash video to http://monster-rpg.com/videos.html and you can download an H.264 ipod format version too if you want.
Edit: I'm playing through my camera viewfinder/tiny lcd but I think I get the hang of it eventually
.
One battle takes 22 minutes?
Anyway, now that I've been able to watch the video, it looks better than I remembered. Seems suitable for a hand held device.
...as well as redoing 95% of the graphics
Explains why the game looks prettier now.
I watched the beach battle video and it seems like you were struggling with the keys (it looks very uncomfortable clicking those tiny buttons), don't you think you should make them somehow bigger or easier to click?
See my edit. I was playing through a very low resolution viewfinder on my camera. I don't have that problem when playing directly on the ipod.
All I can say that it looks and sounds amazing. Good luck with it.
I think this game itself is a convincing reason to buy an iPhone
Well done!
I feel remembered back to the great times of 'Secret of Mana' and 'Lufia'.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the compliments! Not enough can be said about the artists who made the content though, since when I presented an earlier version of this game (for PC) it received a lot of criticism. This was my first big team project and I hope not my last!
How many people worked on this one?
Hmm I hate to say a number and forget someone but... core people I think 5, and probably a dozen or more did bits and pieces.
I too would like to say that I'm very impressed by your project and hope your game sells well. Unfortunately I don't possess an iPhone, otherwise I would have been very tempted ...
Your media seems to be very well done - music and graphics are very pleasant.
Thanks Michael. I hope it does well for the sake of the people who invested their time into it... and I wouldn't mind making some profit so I could pay people more next time
.
But it covers 15% of any money you ever make doing anything.
What if you publish in your wife's name?
