I'm opening a new thread dedicated to our Spore Creatures
Post here what you have created!
I'll start with the Allegro logo

I made a horrible abomination. I will not post it.
Very cool. Nice animations etc.
Maybe I'm missing something... but this seems utterly useless. Where is the "game"?
Very nice Epsi, it really looks like our mascot!
Maybe I'm missing something... but this seems utterly useless. Where is the "game"?
Isn't this supposed to be a Creature "creator"? The game will be ready in september.
Btw, do post your horrible abomination, i'm curious!
It seems a bit like charging money for the character-creation part of an RPG... I might post it later, gotta make it prettier first

So far these are all looking fairly wholesome. Most people I know seem to just be making gigantic penis monsters.
T-Rex Knight (would kick your ass any day)

For those that haven't seen Sporepedia yet. And for penis-like creatures, check here.
I'll start with the Allegro logo
And for penis-like creatures, check here [neogaf.com].
I'm 27 and I still at the giant penis creatures...
This one is really mad (Cannot even consider adding it as an image here!)

"The world where everyone has the power to create things from the molecular level up sounds great until you get caught in your first carnivorous penis rain."
I don't have it yet.
I don't have it yet.
Neither do I, because that site claims that my country has full download slots, so I have to wait. What a shame, this is a great opportunity to make content for our games.
Hehehehe, if you are trying to download from Megaupload, Rapidshare or similar, you can guess it is illegal
What a shame, this is a great opportunity to make content for our games.
How do you figure? You would probably have to re-create the entire rendering system which I would guess is rather non-trivial task. I doubt it saves the creatures as meshes and animation data... Could be nice as a design tool I guess shrug
I can't find a good download link either ...
Is Pirate Bay good enough?
(Mod edited)
Try Pirate Bay
It's just a trial anyway
EDIT: beaten
(Mod edited)
The good thing about this is that, apparently, you can use created creatures in any version of the game, so I could take the exported creature from the PC version and use it in the console one.
Jonatan: well it can export animations, and I'm not saying that you need 3d model.
Hmm... to delete posts linking to TPB or not... demo in CD... gray area...
Just editing the link out for now.
Fair enough.
Good point OICW; that might be useful. Depends on the quality and such, and more than anything licence issues. I doubt you can use the product of this "game" for anything...
Well that surely depends on the licence. However it's user generated content and it would be like licensing 3d model because you made it with Maya. You can use those pictures for forum avatars etc. Not to mention that it would surely propagate their game.
It could be like Miis, they are just a bunch of indexes. If the procedural algorithm is fed always the same seed, you would be able to reproduce any creature with only the general index of the skin, legs, etc. If you can choose exactly where to put members (like a pixel up, two pixels down, etc, they may be using a matrix to store limb joints. In any case, no, you would not be able to do anything with the export information.

However, the textures could be copyrighted as art, so you would only own the model, but not the final creature.
From what I've heard you can export pictures, that's enough.
The designer is quite simple, but so flexible at the same time. Wow. Fuck my predictions, if Spore will be anything like this, it will rock!

I like the concept of single-user online. It is very casual friendly. I hate competitive environments where you are forced to accept or leave the community. However, it all depends on how hard is the game itself.
I don't think the full game will be heavy on the CPU / GFX. (Well, of course it will be, but not to the extent some people think).
I can't wait till' the game comes out... I mean, it could pull me in just like The Sims.
Anyway, here is my new creation.

This one took longer. I put more thought into it. Its a bug-dinosaur thing with a tail that can kick yo ass any day in the week! Bow down to its mightiness! \o/
Make sure to check out the tutorial video on the spore website to learn how to do everything. You can make extra lanky arms with several joints, one-eyed creatures, etc. Oh, I can't wait...
I found an easter egg. \o/
ReyBrujo: The file is an official demo that was taken from a videogame magazine released early. Nothing to worry about
Anyway I'm definitely buying the full version on Wednesday (it was delayed by a day )
Yeah, I know. But unless you can get the demo CD for free, you are supposed to have bought the magazine to get it. In any case, as you say, it will retail in a few days.
I'm definitely "buying" this too. I will also be "buying" Spore when it comes out. I cant wait. I'm all hyped!
Is this a creature creation game? or a modeling tool? can you also animate with it?, can it export meshes, or animations frames as bitmaps?
You create the Spore creatures you will be using in the Spore game. It is kind of a Mii Channel, where you create avatars that will later be used by games. Check this presentation where Wright explains it (pretty old, but bonus points for having Robin Williams test it.
Found it, got it working, played with it an hour, fun stuff. I'll definitely want the full creature editor, if not the full game.
It's really impressive to see what these guys at Something Awful forum are doing with just a small set of parts. I'm excited to see what people come up with when the full Creature Creator comes out.
[Warning - dodgy link] This is so wrong.
Yeah, I know. But unless you can get the demo CD for free, you are supposed to have bought the magazine to get it. In any case, as you say, it will retail in a few days.
My GF picked up the CD in a bar yesterday, so it's now an official free stuff

And you can download it from the official site. The demo shouldn't have the copyright protection though, right?
I got it last night and tried making T-Rex from Dinosaur Comics fame:

WTF are they smoking?
If you buy Spore creature creator from the american website it costs 9.90$ (DOLLARS), if you buy it from the italian website you get to pay 9.90€ (EUROS)
What is this, a new type of rip-off?
FMC: it's the same as with the price of electronics. So nothing new.

It's all tariffs. They benefit all the stupid US software companies and our sugar growers. If there were no tariffs (spawn of an interfering government), and capitalism was allowed to run it's course, then all the better sugar growers, the ones off coast, would make all the money, and our awful ones wouldn't have the upper hand. Because of tariffs, sugar from outside the US costs more than the sugar from inside, even though it is easier to grow outside. Apparently, as stated above, Italy does it too.
5 of my favorite creations. Of the ones I made, anyway:

One of my favorites, personally.

I tried making something slightly disturbing. It has eyes on it's hands.

Yes, it has arms coming out of the second joint on it's legs.

I tried making a creature doing a handstand.

My first creation. Inspired by an eggplant, I think.
I am having so much fun with this thing. It's very entertaining making horrible abominations that should never be allowed to live
Is anyone else being repeatedly reminded of Pokemon by this thread? Also, this looks awesome... I may have to get it when I get internet at home.
Nope. Pokemon never got quite this strange.
Nope. Pokemon never got quite this strange.
The original 150 were alright, but those new ones were just odd and confusing.
...
...
What is this, four, five posts? And I've already derailed a thread? Bad Neil! No cookies for you!
Spore creatures are awesome! <-- back on topic
The original 150 were alright, but those new ones were just odd and confusing.
I totally agree. Then they just invented new stuff to fill the new shows with. It go lamer with every new season.
And no, I don't watch them, my little sister does, and so I can see some of the crap thats in there.
[off topic]
I stopped paying attention to Pokemon after the new ones came in. It just didn't seem the same.
[/off topic]
So... how about them there Spore creatures?
FMC: it's the same as with the price of electronics. So nothing new.
Not really, all the games i bought from Amazon.com or directDrive always made me pay the dollar cost (which for me is quite cheap).
9.9$ are 6.3€
9.90€ is a 157% increase!

Don't you mean 57% increase?
Is anyone else being repeatedly reminded of Pokemon by this thread?
Having never seen the show, nor played any of the games, I have to say: no.
It looks really fun!
Sad thing I can't run the demo. I get that error message about a security module. I read it's because I can't run both the demo and Process Explorer. But even without Process Explorer running I get the same error message. I give up... and I doubt I'll buy the full creature creator. Very sad thing.
I'm waiting for my copy. My wife ordered it for my birthday before it came out.
Don't you mean 57% increase?
Err.. yes. Actually what i meant is that my version costs 157% of the US version.
That's the price you pay for living in an inferior country.
That's the price you pay for living in an inferior country.
I wouldn't call having cheaper games "paying a price."

Do you earn in $ or €? What should I say, then, when a single Wii game is being sold down here for a sixth of the average income.

I was referring to them charging 9.90 in the local currency, which is more than the USD equivalent.
I was referring to them charging 9.90 in the local currency, which is more than the USD equivalent.
Yes, that was obvious. What I thought was also just as obvious was that I was trying to retort by saying it was the USA that was the inferior country.
I was referring to them charging 9.90 in the local currency, which is more than the USD equivalent.
Not so much when you take in account that our price includes taxes. But yeah, nice trolling there anyway, I can't believe some fell for it
Umm, 57% worth of taxes?
Meh...

@gnolam:
Finally, got it a few hours ago. Here's my first two creations:
It's my cat, Harry:
{"name":"595725","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/9\/4\/9471c4246a353d7da328964cc4249f84.jpg","w":400,"h":300,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/9\/4\/9471c4246a353d7da328964cc4249f84"}

And a moogle:

http://www.allegro.cc/files/attachment/595729
Ahaha, a moogle!
And here's Mario set 1, with originals to compare. Some aren't that close, but oh well. Bowser turned out great, hence why he has the most pictures. The Piranha is cool, because the bottom thing (to replace the tube) spits blue balls, which looks like it comes out of its mouth at the top.
http://www.allegro.cc/files/attachment/595733
Tomorrow, I'll start work on Final Fantasy 1 monsters. Yay!
Onewing, that Bowser is great good. Nice job!
Okay you've all convinced me, I'm downloading this thing.
... It sure is a big file.

Alright, I'll take a moment to review this product now. I didn't play it for a few days and made a few creatures today / yesterday.
Build Mode
This part is excellent with a few minor annoyances. I don't like the sizing control (using the mouse wheel). When I have something selected, using the wheel should always affect that selected item, regardless of where the mouse is. Unfortunately, the mouse also has to be over the selected item (slightly losing the point of selecting it). As for the vertebraes, you can't even select them. It gets difficult to make minor modifications to small things. I'm assuming the thought was speed over accuracy.
There's enough items with enough options to create a huge set of different creatures, as evident by the amount of spores uploaded on spore.com. However, I hope they add more ears and noses. The eye department is a little lacking as well.
I'm curious if even more items will be available when the game comes out. Has anyone even come close to running out of money (dna currency?)? I always run out of complexity first. Perhaps this will make more sense when the actual game comes out (no, I haven't read any other material on this subject).
Creating joints is a little funky too, but no one ever said Maxis had good UI design. (;)) I wish I could just click a button that gave me another joint to work with on the selected limb.
I wish I could zoom out further for when I'm working on larger creatures. I also wish I could have more stats/abilities to work with...seems slightly lacking. And what about water-bound creatures? Can anybody say Spore 2?
Other than that, awesome! Anybody could have fun with it and create some really neat models. From the people who try to make something serious, something balanced or something silly...or something perverted (I would say that sums up all the categories). It'll be fun to use this in conjunction with the full game.
Test Drive
Good call on carelessly syncing videos with YouTube. Very user friendly here to do things that are external to the tool (taking pictures, animated avatars). Plus, checking out some of the features gives a taste of what gameplay will be like.
Only question here, why are the abilities the spore has unavailable here. You know, sing, strike, sprint, etc.?
Paint Mode
My least favorite of the modes. Sure it does neat stuff, but they really sacrificed control for ease of use here. I might as well just throw a bucket of paint at the creature. Why can't I select an item on the spore and paint that item individually? (Probably technical reasons, like conserving space) Still, I have a hard time painting it the way I want. At least let me do the base color of each item as I specify!
Also, it's not very clear what the option one picks does in the different mode. You can kind of tell (e.g. this paints the bell, this creates spots), but why not let us choose a basic torso shape instead of only that ball torso that is currently used?
To me, this mode needs the most work.
Overall
Overall, I'm pretty happy. I can make most creatures I see (I've so far made some ff1 creatures, mario creatures and mythical creatures...plus a few originals focused on balanced stats). Pretty neat little tool that gets me pumped for Spore (and I already was). Glad they are utilizing social networking too on their spore.com site. I just wish I could get the colors right.
I played the demo and it was okay. The limbs are like rubber bands.
