Neat. The guy's other videos are worth a watch too; the Brolsma painted with chocolate and the Spurlock done with fries and ketchup were pretty sweet. :)

This guy rocks ! We were killed ... me, and my poor paint skills .

BAF

That reminds me of an old screensaver my grandmother had on her computer, and it would paint stuff like that. I used to sit and watch it when I was bored. :P

Kibiz0r

My sister, when I showed her this:

galadriel101 •Apr 6, 3:53am Helpful? yes / no
Horrible drag queen foreground with a minimaly developed background. Mona Lisa threw-up in her mouth a bit.

Art History majors...

OICW

I saw another video where some guy draws Porsche GT3, it look cool too. Enjoy.

Samuel Henderson

Wow, that guy is good. I have a friend who does all his stuff in MS Paint. Most of it does not look too bad. I haven't seen anything of this quality produced using paint though.

Rampage

I saw it two weeks ago. I thought it was old, so I didn't make a post about it.

relpatseht

Don't you know the rule, Rampage?
Nothing is old until it is posted here, at which time it has existed for what may as well be years and has, quite obviously, been seen by every sentient being ever to walk the planet, including the dead and electronically impaired.

Kibiz0r

All the "Draw [thing] in MS Paint" stuff is old, but it's always entertaining for some reason.

bamccaig

Having very limited drawing ability I'm very impressed by it. Then again, as I watched the majority of the Porche video (skipped through most of the Mona Lisa) at the end I thought...

"However long this took (obviously a ton more than 7 minutes) at the end all you have is a static picture of a Porche... A digital camera can do it in seconds."

At least if he took the time to model and texture 3D objects he could have programmers bring them to life afterward.

For me, high quality computer generated images such as those used in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children are far more beautiful than any painting I've seen.

I wouldn't be surprised if he took a scanned photo of Mona Lisa and made a proglet to "unpaint" it (with some hand editing) and play the frames in reverse.

Or maybe you're just a final fantasy fanboy. I base this guess on the 11-line sig you have going there.

bamccaig

Anybody else have zero respect for anyone that uses the term fanboy ever? ???

It's not just Final Fantasy, however, Square Enix does seem to do it better than the rest. I even prefer PlayStation graphics, like Metal Gear Solid, to anything painted.

I do appreciate airbrushing cars and tattooing though. :D Those can be done well enough to meet my approval.

Rampage

Only fanboys do.

Kibiz0r

There is a lot of merit to digital animation, I say as I sit in my Modelling and Animation class. You can do things in it that are impossible in any other medium, and the wide variety of styles exceeds traditional art forms, I think.

@gnolam:
As for bamccaig being a fanboy... I see it, too. But, whatever, if he likes FF a lot, that's fine. You seem to like being cynical a lot. Perhaps we should call you a cynicboy? :D

@bamccaig: Let me try to rephrase my point above. What's so bad about being a fanboy? I'm a ff fanboy, as pointed out by a.ccers when I first got here. Yeah, I'm biased towards ff for the most part, maybe they even think less of me because of it, so what? Besides, as I quoted gnolam above, he does have a very good reason to consider you a fanboy. ;)

Rampage
Quote:

I think for myself and apparently on Allegro.cc that's frowned upon. ::)

Yeah, brand loyalty is a clear sign of free, independent thought.

bamccaig

When I hear a fanboy insult it sounds like the person saying it is merely offended that you disagree with them in one way or another and have no real ground to stand on to actually debate the issue with you. Hense, the childish remark.

To me, fanboy is, and always will be, a kindergarten insult. It's more degrading for the shooter than it is for the target.

Kibiz0r

Bleh, I was busy trying to keep up with the VRay tutorial (still in class!) and I missed the excitement. I should've specified that I was talking about gnolam.

I just think it's valid that he's passionate about something. Lots of people are passionate about completely pointless things, at least he finds some creative value in his.

Edit: Granted, the fanboy mentality is fundamentally flawed. I'd say the only thing I am incapable of judging objectively is XKCD, but that's because, after 245 comics, I have never been let down.

Fanboy or Fanboi is a term used to describe an individual (usually male, though the feminine version fangirl may be used for females) who is utterly devoted to a single fannish subject, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession. Fanboys remain loyal to their particular obsession, disregarding any factors that differ from their point of view. Fanboys are also stereotypically aggressive and hateful towards the opposing brand or competition of their obsession regardless of its merits or achievements.

Ironic.

Eh, I don't know. Fanboyism, to me, reads as complacency, and I've never been comfortable with being complacent, if that makes any sense.

If I'd had the time, I would've already learned a bevy of algorithms, techniques, and programming/scripting languages this year, but they're being saved for the summer, when I have time.

It wasn't aimed at everybody here. It was aimed at those that have been cynical the past few weeks while I have been active on Allegro.cc. And when they start beef with me there is rarely anybody else that chimes in to oppose them so it's me against Allegro. It doesn't look like I asked for a fight in those threads so I don't know what the beef is about.

I said I think for myself. That has nothing to do with innovating the Internet. And my avatar and signature have nothing to do with it either. I have them because I like Final Fantasy VII. When looking for something to post that expresses me in one way or another I felt those were the best to use.

Just because somebody is a free thinker doesn't mean they do everything their own way. It just means they don't follow the crowd just to be part of the crowd. Rather, they make their own decisions.

That's true for everything. Try observing society. Pop music is popular for a reason and it's usually not because of quality. ;)

But you end up with the same crowd, regardless of the reason: there are a lot of FF fans, and they all like the same things and know the same things. I'm sure many other FF fans will use FF avatars and FF signatures. So, what's the difference between two FF fans? Where's the thinking-for-myself thing?

Having one thing in common doesn't make you a clone. Other FF fans will have other skills and knowledge that I don't have; and I have skills and knowledge that they don't have.

It again comes down to the gray area: this, like most other things, is not black and white. You don't just have FF fans and not FF fans. You have FF fans of varying degree; some are fan enough to use FF media to represent them and some just enjoy it. Others go to conventions and role play on the lawn...

What do you think the odds are of somebody using that exact avatar and/or signature? It's not impossible, but it's also not probable; especially on A.cc.

Liking something doesn't have to define who you are. I like a lot of things that wouldn't be stereotypical of FF fans.

I wouldn't consider him a fan boy simply because he does not obsess over it. I rarely hear him talking about Final Fantasy when the conversation strays to video games. (Usually he talks about Driver or Grand Theft Auto). Or more recently, counter-strike.

Bamccaig went and said that (to him) the CGI in Final Fantasy VII Advent children was more beautiful than any painting made in the last few thousand years or so.

Dustin and Arthur had a nice (brief) convo about whether the Mona Lisa paint thing was legit, and then Gnolam accused Bamccaig of being a fan boy. Bamccaig tried to defend himself by confusing everyone as to what he really means. I came in and saved everyone from total annihilation.

Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And he is my second favourite artist.

That should be two sentences, and The Bathers is a painting by Renoir, not Cézanne. :P

Cézanne painted many pictures of bathers, an entire series to be precise. The series is known as the Bathers series, however there is no one paining by Cézanne entitled The Bathers.
