The spell checker has an "Other..." option at the end of every list of suggestions. Choosing it will allow you to type in your own correction if none of the other ones are correct.
Update: There is also a personal dictionary now. You can add words to it manually at the control center. There is a new button in the Spell Check tab that can alternatively be used to add words as you encounter them. It will add any words that you have not changed. Thus, make your corrections first - then press the button.
If these don't work, you need to press your browser's Reload button while editing a post.
tihs mekas psots mcuh eiaser to wirte!
I like that. One more spell checker request: have it check for member names as well as the dictionary, so if I don't know how to spell someone's name (like Kryzeik (sp?)) I can find the correct spelling on the spell checker. It might be a dumb idea, it just sounds nice to me...
There are personal dictionaries now (see updated first post), but I don't think they will actually help if you misspell a word. For example, if you add his name to your dictionary, but still misspell it, I don't think that it will show up on the correction list. It's really just intended to address situations where you use a word that the spell checker doesn't know about.
Matthew, the spell checker is not working for me. Windows XP, Opera 8.51. tihs wsa fixde wtih the spel cheker.
Works for me with the same combination.
What you think it might be? It only went bad after the add of the button.
Have you pressed Reload on a page with a mockup box? Describe "not working."
All I did was to write in the reply box (which is always at the bottom) and click spell check, and set the words to the right ones, and click Add Reply.
You have to switch away from the spell checker, to either the Preview or Compose tab, then reply. That's what I have to do in Konqueror, anyway.
You shouldn't have to switch tabs to make the change. Firefox does it correctly anyway.
Until you hear otherwise, just switch back to compose after doing a spell check in Opera. I don't have KDE as it's too big of a pain to stay updated on a modem, so I don't test Konqueror.
Edit: I have confirmed that it works under Firefox 1.5, MSIE 6.0, and Opera 9.0 without any problems. Opera 8.5 evidently has a bug where if you change a value of a textarea during the "onsubmit" stage it fails save the changes.
So you'll have to either update to Opera 9 (Preview) or remember to click Compose before hitting submit.
Opera 8.5 works fine for me (winxp pro sp2)
