OK, I played WoW last night for about 1.5 hours, and I'm at level 5. Some questions.
1) When I buy or loot stuff it seems to go into my backpack. If I open up my character screen at drag some items from backpack, does that mean I know have these items to use? And if so, there are multiple items for armor and stuff, so how do I see my total armor/attack values?
2) Will I have to repair some things I have on me? Seems the durability values drop. Does this effect the + I get from the weapon?
3) Looks like some quest givers show up as higher level experience. Does this mean anything?
4) How do I get/practice a skill (skinning or whatever) and a production.
5) How can I fish?
6) I did join shadowmoon, PvP, but I'm still at the home town place. When is it OK to start going out into the world? And how would I find some of you guys?
I must say I like it so far. I did 3 quests. Kill 10 rat type miners, kill 10 wolves, and kill and collect bandits rags. Do the quest givers at the home base ever run out of quests or do they keep giving quests?
I'd suggest you to browse through the manual a bit.

Your character screen contains equipment slots and your total stats, including armor.
2) Will I have to repair some things I have on me? Seems the durability values drop. Does this effect the + I get from the weapon?
Once an item drops to 0 durability, you gain no benefits from it any more until you repair it.
3) Looks like some quest givers show up as higher level experience. Does this mean anything?
?
4) How do I get/practice a skill (skinning or whatever) and a production.
Buy them from trainers (ask a guard for location) and use them.
5) How can I fish?
RTFM.
When is it OK to start going out into the world?
When you run out of quests wherever you are. If you pay attention, you'll notice that there's a "trail" of quests that leads you from location to location at the appropriate time.
Also when I try to buy something and it's in red, it let's me buy it but I can't equip it. I can't see where it says what level I must be to own something.
It says if you hover over an item. If it's red, it could be because you're too low level, or because your class can't equip that item.
The red usually tells you. If you're a mage and the armor is Mail (you can only wear Cloth) "Mail" will be in red. The level requirement for armor is also clearly stated; if one isn't listed, then there's no level requirement.
6) I did join shadowmoon, PvP, but I'm still at the home town place. When is it OK to start going out into the world? And how would I find some of you guys?
As X-G said, the quests kind of "lead" you out into different zones. As for finding us, do a search for "LFN" to find members of my guild (Morrog is also a member). Ask the highest level one (you know how to do whispers, right?) for a guild invite and tell them you're a friend of Shii's. Posting your character name and class here couldn't hurt, either.
I won't be online for a few hours, but I'll see you there later today.
I did human warrior, your talk about killing warriors easy made me want to take the challenge . My name in game in Allegrorick.
Level 6 right now.
My name in game in Allegrorick.
If I were on your server, I would personally report you for a naming policy violation. 23, want to do the honors?
That wouldn't be very nice now would it
I think it's a terrible name (not that Shii is much better ), but I wouldn't report it.
Why in the world would anyone report it. People should be concentrating on their own game and not worry about other peoples names.
I like Shii
Because your name disrupts my game. It breaks immersion, but most of all, it's against the naming policy. Did you even take time to read it before creating your character?
I think Alleg-Rorick is a nice name
X-G, I hope you are kidding. This would be like suing someone because they have a weird hat on and you fall down some stairs because you were busy looking at the hat and didn't watch where you were going.
Alleg-Rorick
I don't think you can have hyphens ... shame.
Are you even listening? I didn't make this up. Blizzard did. Click that link right now and read it. I for one am happy about it, because it means I don't have to look at stupid names all day.
For the record, X-G is right. A Gnome named Tossme on my server had his name changed by Blizzard, for example.
Anyway, how many people would know where Allegrorick comes from? Outside of the posters here, it looks perfectly innocent.
I don't see why it should be against the naming policies.
It's not even a real world reference. It's not a sentence. Allegrorick (with the prononciation given above) is perfectly valid.
And he's on a PvP server not a roleplaying server, so why bother? And he doesn't affect your game (since he's not on your server) so please place your thumb in an orifice of your choice and smile.
Are you even listening? I didn't make this up
I never questioned if you made it up or not. I was saying that it would be weak if you "turned" my name into Blizzard.
I like how it say no gibberish. Most of the names I've seen sure look like gibberish to me.
Anyway if they ask me to change it, I'll change it.
Allegro is a dark forest where many bad creatures live. So since my warrior is named rick, I linked the 2 and got Allegrorick.
I'm getting impatient now! WoW sounds so involving and deep, if my copy don't arrive soon I'll go insane! Argh!
(Will 'Kid' be an appropiate name?)
Your name is very unlikely to get banned even if it were reported. As SC pointed out it's more likely to be read as alleg-rorick.
For this reason if I were you I would delete the character now and start again with a decent name. Do you really want to be playing for hundreds of hours with such a lame name?
Well, he could report himself. According to the naming rules, he would be assigned a temporary name which he can change via email. Neither character nor account would be banned.
(Will 'Kid' be an appropiate name?)
No, and neither will it be available.
When I buy or loot stuff it seems to go into my backpack. If I open up my character screen at drag some items from backpack, does that mean I know have these items to use? And if so, there are multiple items for armor and stuff, so how do I see my total armor/attack values?
Right clicking items in your backpack or various other bags will equip it. Hover over an item to get stats and find out where it will be equipted.
And the values never decrease, but they will be ineffective once durability is 0. You need to go to certain vendors (Armorsmith, weaponsmith, usually have it) to repair it. Check the bottom of the buying window.
Don't forget to get as many quests as you can. I think you're in Northshire, right? If so, you'll find some real quests in Goldshire, to which you'll be lead soon by the quest chain in Northshire.
And get a group when you do the quests from Goldshire. And don't forget to train. And don't forget to sell your junk. You'll need the money.
I have too few questions:
1)What is the Tauren capital city?
2)Which of theese transports I cannot use for aliance: Griffin, Ship or Airship?
3)How many characters can I have on one account?
4)What is "Kodo"?
Soo Rick does your wallet feel a bit lighter this month
Yeah. , but that's why I work.
What's in a name anyway right? Personally I feel most names I see are silly and I don't like. Like I said a long time ago, I'm not a big fantasy type guy. I like real world stuff, that's why I'm a human warrior, but the game had great reviews and after hearing about it on here, I felt I needed to give it a try. I really like it.
Actually the first month is free So it's only $50 out of your wallet.
And I imagine that if you used a guest pass you could get 40 days free, but not sure if they allow that.
Anywho, I'll throw out my question.
To shield or not to shield?
Right now I have two options:
1) ~450 shield, 10 block, and 12.5 damage per second sword
or
2) Just a two-handed Paladin's holy beat-you-up-real-bad -cause-I-did-a-long-quest-for-this hammer that does 25 damage per second.
? I haven't tried option 1 yet, and I think it'd be hard for me to gauge anyway. Reason why I haven't tried is that I have to train my sword skill, cause right now I just miss every shot, and I've been doing quests soo...haven't had time.
Oh, and another question. What Seal should I be using (Paladin)? I got Seal of Righteousness, Seal of Fury, Seal of blah blah, etc etc. I usually use the one that boosts rate of attack (but decreases damage per hit; actual attack goes up though overall), but shrugs.
EDIT:
BTW if ya'll don't you should check this page: [url http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/underdev/]
Really cool stuff coming next patch.

That is the lamest thing I have ever heard of. Good lord. Its a frigging game for crying out loud. Who cares if the next guy's name is spelled in l33t speak or is just something absolutely retarded?
I started to play Asheron's Call 2 the other day and named my character 'jerkface', which is sort of a joke between me and my roommates. I was going to name him something more inappropriate but I figured at that point the server admins might ban me for that.

I've yet to see a 1337 name. You can't even use non-letters, so I'm not sure how you'd go about that.
Anyway, on to the lightning round ...
1)What is the Tauren capital city?
Thunder Bluff.
2)Which of theese transports I cannot use for alliance: Griffin, Ship or Airship?
Alliance use boats, Horde use Airships. Same function. Both factions have air transport in the form of gryphons or wyverns too.
3)How many characters can I have on one account?
50, I think. Only 8 per server though (one per class, more than enough).
4)What is "Kodo"?
Tauren mount. Big ugly thing, really.

Druid - Cat form damage per second increased
I'd like to believe that. I really would.
The other class improvements sound great. I hope the Warrior improvements affect my Bear mode too. You'd think missing attacks would make you madder; sure has that effect on me.
Anyway, I'm online. Come whisper Shii.
I didn't make this up. Blizzard did. Click that link right now and read it.
Oww... so I can't have a druid named Transformer?
Oh well, I'm not going to buy the game anyways... I've got some better uses for my time (even if the game sounds rater good...)
I stopped by a computer store today to see if I could replace my new and not working SB Live! 7.1 for a real sound card (well, an older SB Live! 5.1). The staff was busy discussing World of Warcraft. I have spoken to people who have lost people they know because they went to play World of Warcraft.
Soon it will be everywhere.
Tauren mount. Big ugly thing, really.
I thought Taurens couldn't use mounts? Guide says they're too big and must use their racial ability.
Also, why are all the Horde big? I'm guessing it's to scary us small Alliance folk
I thought Taurens couldn't use mounts? Guide says they're too big and must use their racial ability.
True in Beta. They changed it.
I started to play Asheron's Call 2 the other day
Me too, what server are you on?
Aethun: glad someone else here loves salad fingers
I think it would be ridiculous if Blizzard banned "Allegrorick".
I don't think so. How would you like it if you were reading the Lord of the Rings and good ole Allegrorick joined up to help Frodo make it to Mordor?
And is it really so hard to pick a decent name for the sake of those that like to Role Play, even occasionally?
And is it really so hard to pick a decent name
Yes. >_<
How would you like it if you were reading the Lord of the Rings and good ole Allegrorick joined up to help Frodo make it to Mordor?
I would say, hello Allegrorick, come helps us. Because I would realize this is still a game, and that the name is by no means offensive. For 99.9% of the people playing that name wouldn't break the fantasy. You could never find a name that would not break the fantasy for everyone. No matter what name you pick, there will be a person out there that relates the name to reality and the fantasy world is broken. For us non fantasy buffs, we don't know how to choose a "fantasy" name, but are money is just as green as yours.
I usually make up names based on a random sequence of alternating fowels and consonants, then removing and shuffeling characters until I find something I like - although I usually end up with an existing name or a name that also appears elsewhere (then again, any pronouncable sequence of fowels and consonants is likely to be a word somewhere and this is even true of unpronouncable ones such as krk). Depending on the setting I may pick an ending for the name in advance.
Names I've made for various reasons (mostly fantasy stories and D&D) in this way include Dorior, Doric, Siane, Orman, Artican, Risic, Meleida, Dzhana, Deotan, Renah. Of those, I probably like Meleida most.
(EDIT: I don't plan on playing World of Warcraft, so I probably don't need any of those for a character name. Feel free to try them out if you're so inclined and see if they're already taken. Do let me know though).
I can pronounce "krk" just fine.
It's a funny thing with names since they depend on culture. And how should one know the naming conventions (as in: how WoW inhabitants actually name their offsprings) in WoW?
Also, since the players are the inhabitants, the names they choose refelect the commonly used names. While "Peter" might be a boring name, why shouldn't it be a valid name for a human?
Same for Allegrorick. If I'd see a person with that name in WoW I wouldn't be disturbed. In fact, I'd pronounce it Alleg-Rorick and would think it's fine. In fact, all that elves with names anding in -omil or -lendra really get on my nerves. And why end most human names in -orn or -mir?
You can't even choose nice dwarfen names, because you can't use long names or spaces.
So, why bother? (As long as you don't play on a RP server, that is)
Heh, I just made a little app that generates random character names. Check the attachment
btw here are some random names my app produced:
Mebbawch
Omner
Xeeyque
Jeegvosbar
Speckdor
Tenoso
Fulprono
Plaachbar
Quadrof
Barkeeshrix
Speckdor
That is my dogs name. You just broke my fantasy. Prepared to be sued.
Well, if Blizzard would take it as seriously as X-G, they wouldn't have added the /moon command.
Right. OK, disclaimer:

/moon command?
Do tell!
It does exactly what you'd expect it to do
It belongs to the wide group of "gesture" commands supported by WoW...
Whoever came up with /train must die ...
/train rules... if you're a gnome or dwarf right before the attack
Quote:
And is it really so hard to pick a decent name
Yes. >_<
They give you a name generator in game! All you do is click it until you find a name you like if you are too busy/lazy to think up your own.
Whoever came up with /train must die ...
Yeah or that /fart command.
Dude, I am totally going to try those two out now...
/train is pretty annoying though... "woo woo!!"
It's acceptable when everyone's riding the Deeprun Tram. But that's it.
So, are most of you on Shadow Moon? I assume there's no way to transplant a character from one realm to another?
I was wondering that myself. Also are all servers the same world, or are they all different? It would really suck to have to start all over when you go onto another server.
Technically they're all different, cause they all have different people in them, but physically they're all the same. However do note that depending on the race/class you pick you'll end up in different areas of the world, and you'll do different quests (until you get to the high level, general, quests).
And I don't know of a way to transfer characters.
Anyway, slightly on-topic with the off-topic, the gesture commands aren't very extensive, at least from what I've seen. A lot of commands I try don't work. In SWG, for example, I could try a random command and it would amazingly have a gesture attached. Not so with WoW. Oh well.
EDIT: Oh and servers differ over type. Some are PvP, others are PvE. I think a couple are RP? Not sure what goes on there really...

Role-playing. It is an RPG, after all.
Not so with WoW. Oh well.
There are plenty of emotes. I've only used maybe 3 or 4 really, but there are plenty of ones that aren't even on the list.
So, are most of you on Shadow Moon? I assume there's no way to transplant a character from one realm to another?
Not as of today, no. Also, take into account that servers are localized, so I don't think it's possible for say Richard (UK) to play with Canadians (and sure, who would? But that's besides the point).

The idea of switching servers has not yet been a closed case; they're looking into the idea. It would be an excellent idea for the servers suffering from problems associated with very high populations, and I see they added a half dozen fresh new servers to take the load off from new players constantly joining already packed realms. Issues come up like names already taken, for example. Someone made a big list of why it wouldn't work very well, but I forget it. Anyway, it's not like you can't just stay where you are and just get your friends to join that one anyway. I technically have characters on 3 different servers (granted, one I don't play anymore ); it's not really a big deal.

Depends on the gesture. Some are undocumented (/train) and definitely have gestures. /rude and /rasp are fun ones.
Here's a new image of the day. Nothing special, but the programmers here might get a kick out of it. See, there was a bug where boats were vanishing and dropping people in the water (usually to die of fatigue). While they fixed it, they just added NPC's to teleport you from one dock to the other for the time being. Gotta love the name ...
but the programmers here might get a kick out of it
This used to be a programming forum, you know
Oh, so that's why they added the poeple? I was wondering why they had teleport people and ships, besides going to different locations.
Question of the day: Can you mail items to your alternate characters in the same server? I'm assuming they allow it, simply because blocking it would be difficult.
When I start a new character I'd really love to transfer my old bags over. That'll be a lifesaver.

Yep you can.
Shadowmoon is down! Oh no, what will I do? AHH
Oh, and thanks for the answer
If Shadowmoon is down, play on Blackhand!
hehe
I deleted my character on Blackhand.
And yeah, I mail stuff back and forth between my Shadow Moon crew all the time.
Question of the day:
When I make my Nightelf Druid what professions shall I seek? My main character is a Miner/engineer.
I chose mining / engineering for my paladin as well... grenades and bombs are about the only things I found useful, but dayamn if they don't tip the balance in a tough fight.
You might want to consider alchemy, potions are a must. But that's just a suggestions.
Wise Druid professions would be either Herbalism/Alchemy (that's me) or Skinning/Leatherworking. Flip a coin.
Anyway, the Shadow Moon guild has added Adol (Loda the Gnome Mage) to its ranks. That's four of us in there now, not counting Memo and James "Zeddicus" Lohr, who are on the server but in different guilds. Plus we have our own Allegro chat channel there now. Fun times.
But what about the programming?
Code UI's?
They use Lua IIRC ...
We will always remember those who fell on the great battle to choose between WoW and programming.. Now, where is that gravestone picture again?:)
If TMS is dead.. can I have the code?
I want X-G's code, 23yrold's code, mEmO's code and WH's code;). Sorry for you, I asked first;)
You can take all their code. But I take Bob's code
Avenger: It seems you posted 2 minutes after me. Jolly bad luck!
Then.. Who is TMS?:-/:)
TMS is Chris' kick-rear game that was going so well until WoW came out...
I wonders what happens if blizzards decides to take down all the servers for a month, for service:)
They would never do a thing like that. They wouldn't even do it for more than 2 hours. Cause if they did...well I'd just plain go insane, and insane people can't make account payments, so...
They would never take all of them down for a month. People would complain to much and they would probably be sued. Not that I would, but someone most likely would try. Anyway they take them down regularly for maintenance for about 4 hours I think. I was on the other morning, and after 5 mins of playing a count down started for when they would be taking it offline.
[EDIT]
I was running as fast as I could to cash in on my quest. Made it with about 30 secs to spare.
Of course, if it goes down for days at a time, people complain because those days eat into their paid subscription time. But Blizzard credits you if it gets that extreme.
I remember when the countdown timer started just as we were closing in on the final boss of Gnomeregan. We were so pissed. >_<
