The idea for this thread struck me while I was eating Chinese food - a shrimp roll and shrimp lo main. Chinese is prolly one of my favorite foods.

What is everyone else's favorite food(s)?

Johan Halmén

I'm not vegetarian but here's my favorite:

Take 2 halves of a zucchini. Carve the soft stuff off with a spoon. Slice an onion and a garlic. Fry the soft stuff together with the onion and the garlic in a pan with a tea spoon of oil. Add one can of mashed tomato. Add some salsa if you like it. Let the stuff dehydrate for some minutes in the hot pan. Fill the carved zucchini halves with the stuff. Put some olives on top if you like that. Top with cheese and put in the oven, 200 C, until the cheese gets some colour.

Chris Katko

I wish I could say, but I've got to many. ;D

I like chinese food too

I'll get some take out asap (when i get some cash)

I was in Italy a week this summer, ate everything I could find and gained two kilos without regretting Anything

I think Italian is prolly the ultimate kitchen.. I've come to regard the others as kiddie-food :)

Great, simple dish:

2 portions

  • Boil spaghetti for two, with some oil and salt in the water (al dente, dammit!)

  • Thinly slice 4 cloves of garlic and carefully fry it a bit together with one teaspoon (TEA, not TABLE!) of chili (/sambal olek) and olive oil

  • Mix it all up, and serve with a good olive oil, and some fresh grated parmesan cheese

  • Do NOT cut the spaghetti - roll it around the fork - if nesseccary with the aid of a spoon

The taste of this simple dish is amazing - just be careful not to fry the garlic/chili mix too much - the garlic should become light brown, but not too brown.. mm...

Per Larsson

Both of your recipes sound really yummy, I'll try one of them out tomorrow! But Torbjörn, one tablespoon of sambal oelek, won't that be a wee bit... hot? ;)

Torbjörn Josefsson

Heh! some like it hot ;)

-Thanks for spotting it - I really don't like it when food is so hot that you sit sweating - It's even worse than food that doesn't taste Anything..

Anyone here who's into the real hot stuff?

I am :)
I think Indian food is my favorite :)

Now, if only we could lure a few more Indian immigrants to this town... haven't found a decent Indian restaurant anywhere around here :P
Hmm... maybe I should start convincing exchange students to stay here? :)

Chinese is one of my favorite too.

I love meat though. That's almost all I eat.
I went to the grocery store today and bought:
- One thick, juicy T-Bone steak.
- Two thick, juicy Beef Steaks.
- Three thick boneless pork loin chops
- Three boneless chicken breasts.
- One shrimp ring.
- Montreal Chicken Spices for my Chicken. ;D
- A bunch of yogurt.

..and that's it.
Gotta love meat. :)

You should sometime pay a visit to your local slaughter house then. Not that I don't like meat, I'm just saying...

23yrold3yrold

I like hot stuff. I inherited my dad's iron stomach :)

I also like salf beef. I only have it for special occasions like Thanksgiving though ...

What would I find there that I'm not already aware of? :P

In grade 12 religion this girl did a presentation on animal abuse (at the worst degree possible). She had an extremely graphic photo album which was passed around the class. A lot of it was from cattle farms, slaughter houses, chicken farms, etc. Didn't gross me out enough to stop eating meat... or stop using glue! ;)

miran

It's not just the sights, the most important aspects of the whole experience are the sounds and the smells. In chicken meat processing plants some areas are even labeled as biohazard and workers need to wear special protective suits and gas masks to enter. And I'm not making this up. OK, I added biohazard for effect (it could be true though) but the stuff about gas masks definately is a fact...

manjula

Japanese all the way. Raw fish rules.

23yrold3yrold

ChaoticCanuck from GameDev is supposed to take me to some sushi place he knows one of these days. I'm scared; isn't raw stuff supposed to be bad for you? Not for vegetables, but, I mean, meat, and stuff ...

Thomas Fjellstrom

I like Chinese as well.. But I find I like Japanese better. (Much Better)

Except for the rawfish :) can't stand fish as it is (besides tuna).

manjula

Tommy & 23 : Come have japanese with me in Toronto. The sushi is awesome.

Thomas Fjellstrom

Would If I could :) Except for the sushi.

then again, I heard, not all sushi is actually made from raw fish, so I might go for some sushi, just not raw fish :)

Nope. Unless you try the Blowfish :) lots of vegetarians don't seem to classify fish as meat even :)

As long as its stored properly, raw fish is fine. Raw beef and chicken on the otherhand... Go ahead, if you want to get sick and/or die :)

I see that as an excuse for a vegetarian to eat SOMETHING other than vegetables, but what the heck?

phate

I had sushi once.. and will probably never try it again. I thought I'd like it. It looked like a cool, exotic snack :)
..but the rice just doesn't go with the wrap. Mine had crab meat with some carrots and stuff which was good.. but the rice and wrap just didn't go together .. was too dry, sticky and sour. :P

I like my rice swimming in Kikkoman, thank you very much! :)

I really think vegetarian-tolerance has gone too far: How many of you haven't been to some dinner where they said "Well, Jennifer is vegetarian, so we'll have to make vegetarian food for all 12 of us"... horrible.. especially since I've hardly eaten Any vegetarian food that I would like to eat again.. I'm going to start boycotting these things, and Demand decent food! Vegetarians can bring a zucchini to eat instead of destroying lunch for everybody else.

..I wonder how many cows there would be in the world if people didn't eat them.. not a lot, I would guess. Would it make the cows happier to not exist at all?

PS - Yes, animals SHOULD have be given decent lives - I wouldn't mind if was criminal not to do so

gnolam: Maybe you can get an indian mail-order bride? :)

Can't say that's happend to me... but I can't even think of a vegetarian I know personally. When that situation has come up, the vegetarian is the minority.. so they're the ones who must suffer with their life style.. .. !!! ;)

Since my server is going so slow because I have some torrents going... I'll post an image! :)

Aww.. you poor things!
I'll be sure to pick one up for you when I travel to 7-Eleven next..

.. I'll be sure to drink it for you too! Wahahaha..

Trezker

Vegetables also have feelings!
If we can't eat cows, then why are they made of meat?
I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to become a vegetarian!

Thank you for listening.

Welll! One thing that tends to go for vege's is that farm animals such as cows and sheep need quite a bit of pasture to live on! The same area of pasture produces alot more vegetable food than that farm animal does! Remember what a big problem starvation is...Also miran's suggestion is a very wierd experience! I visited a slaughterhouse once, and I could not touch meat for months! I've never seen so many scared animals in my life! They KNEW what was coming I swear it! It really was quite horrible! Now I go for Natural Hygeine principles for food! I still eat meat but only now and then! I also think that if someone is Vege! they should bring thier own food rather than expect everyone else to eat what they do...

I LOVE hot food too!

DanielH

HMMM... STEAK...

Pan fry some steak strips. Towards the end add some sliced onion and garlic. Saute a bit. Cover in Tomato Sauce. Simmer for approx .5 hours. Add Chopped green pepper and mushrooms. Serve over choice of steamed rice or masht pertaters.

I eat this frequently, and I like it a lot. One of my favourites ;D

But it's difficult to choose one. In general I like meat. Chicken is the one I like more.

I also like chinese food, but I haven't tried japanes food yet.

I went to a slaughterhouse once. Not only did I not get grossed out by any of it they let me help out.
