I read this on a mail list, and is really good if it's true, I can't believe it at all, sometimes I think is fake but... wherever...
look at http://www.gameprogramming.org
As I already said in a private converstaion I'm a little suspicious. For one thing there are no names of people or organizations on this page, they're refering to themselves just as 'us'. And when you go to the 'About us' page it's not eve about 'us'.
If it's not fake the curriculum looks OK though..
There's gotta be something in it for them.... just what?
IF it really is free, then all the material should be free for people to view. I bet you they have a deal where they get you to buy books and subscribe to services.
These sort of courses are becoming now. The one I may be enrolling into is a BA(Hon) in Computer and Video Games. Check it out...
Computer and Video Games, BA(Hons)
well, I just got this email from the webmaster of VGP.
Hello,
Thanks for your interested in our program. No, there will be no fee to
study in our program, however, sometime you need to buy class materials
inorder to finish the assignments required in the class. It won't be that
much, and not all classes require you to buy anything. The math entrance
exam will be on college algebra. Yes, you can get in the class regarless
of race or religion. All you need to know is English.
I emailed them and got the same thing in a different way:
Thanks for your interested in our program. The courses are free of charge
and students will not be required to buy anything from us except sometime
like drawing class where we require students to do drawings; so they have
to buy drawings materials outside on their own at the art store near their
location etc. Otherwise, no fees or whatsoever need to pay to us. To get
into our program, we offer all students unconditional admission to
elective courses only. After that, they have to take the math entrance
exam inorder to be officially enroll in our program. Hope we answer your
questions. If you have any, feel free to reply.
I plan to email them more questions when I think of them to see if they actually answer them or just give me a run around.
It's online now, you can enter, in the admission page of www.gameprogramming.org, there is the username and password, tough, there is no course yet, until September 1st
Well I'll be the test rat. I signed up to see if it is legit or not. I pray they are being true about their intentions otherwise I will be forced to turn them in.
I was thinking about it, and I have two questions:
1) Why does someone would offer free courses about game development?
2) Why does someone would offer free courses about game development AND the course would be fake?
I have those questions and a lot more. I joined and emailed the webmaster with some questions and told them that I joined and if it turned out to be a scam that I would email the proper authorities and turn them in. So if the site disappears you know why
.
Well, it looks like a good idea, but there are so many grammatical and spelling errors on the page that I'd be weary of taking a class from them.
but there are so many grammatical and spelling errors on the page that I'd be weary of taking a class from them.

?
Tired.. cautious.. is there really a difference?
