I know there's a thread called "worst movies ever", and just because that I thought: why are we so negative? So I decided to create this one:D
So the question is: what's the best movie you have seen? I mean the movie which you can watch a lot of times and you don't get bored (So don't say Citizen Kane. I don't think this movie is in this cathegory.)
The best movie for me is Blade Runner. I like it very much. I saw the video version comercialiced in Europe (I say this because there are 6 versions, so if you saw it at cinema you saw another version, and the DVD version is also different). I rent it and saw it 5-6 times in two days. I searched for the DVD, but I didn't find it:(
Hackers... I know its cheesy but.. man if I could get one of those gibsons..
Hey, Bladerunner is my fav too!
I especially like the directors cut version
Liar Liar! Jim Carrey is a Genius!
You can get Blade Runner versions info here
And I recommend the game, released by Westwood about 5 years ago. Really good graphics and really good plot (with different endings).
I like Shrek very much, too.
I've seen Citizen Kane three times & enjoyed it three times. But that doesn't matter, because North by Northwest is the one I'd nominate as most re-watchable!
I like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon so much and I love Tenchi Muyo in love
.
I like Matrix too and any kung-fu movie with Jet Li and Jackie Chan
^__^
No contest.

your sense of good movies is great 23yearold
hehe. 'Citizen Kane' was about the only movie I watched where I could fall asleep, even when Im so tired I fall asleep literally a second after my head hits the pillow, I can't seem to fall asleep watching TV. Mind you I was about 12, maybe I'll enjoy it a bit more now...
American Beauty is my favorite movie.
end monologe of American Beauty:
"i should be pissed off about what happened to me, but its hard to stay mad when theres so much beauty in the world. sometimes its like i am seeing it all at once, and its too much, and my heart fills up like a balloon thats about to burst. then i remember to relax and stop trying to hold on to it. then it flows threw me like rain, and i can't feel anything but gratitude for every moment of my stupid little life"
Hi, my favorite movie is Le fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain but (for the no French talking people) it was not translate in other languages I think, because J.P.Jeunet don't want his movie to be modified by anyone , (especialy from Americans who always want to do it again as they want
)
And on course Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Dr. Strangelove! How can you ignore Dr. Strangelove!
And of course: Crouching Tiger, Momento, A Beautiful Mind, Monsters Inc, Matrix, etc ...
(ya bloody reds, ommitting strangelove ... we've got to protect our precious bodily fluids here!)
There's not a best movie, there ARE best movies.
The movie has to bee a good one when it features either Samuel L. Jackson (except the starwars ones, they suck), Steve Buscemi (or however it's written) or Quentin Tarantino.

Die fabelhafte Welt der Amélie? That was great. Especially since it was dubbed German.
I like Blade Runner, which has an amazingly intense atmosphere. However, at least the DVD directors cut, which I own, is a bit tedious in some scenes. I prefer the original novel by Philip K. Dick who put his emphasis to some very different aspects.
As far as its visual style is concerned, The Matrix absoultely rocks. The story is dumb.
I won't declare any movie the best. Surely there are many good ones that I either don't know or don't remember because they have not yet occured in this thread.
Blade Runner didn't seem too great, but then I only saw the director's cut version. It was too focused on the violence (that really really boring chase scene at the end, especially) and didn't have very much character developement -- it seemed something of a cop-out to have the androids be mentally unstable ...
I enjoy the matrix because it succeeds in taking some of the feelings of Cyberpunk and putting them on the screen ... makes me think of that far superior novel, "Snow Crash." Story is dumb, but it didn't seem that was the point.
I know Quentin Tarantino ... how are the other guys? Who's Steve Buscemi? (ie, what's he in)
Forgot Ghostbusters
Well, it was my favorite when I was 10 ....
I'd vote for The Empire Strikes Back.
I think it will always be my favorite.

Who's Steve Buscemi? (ie, what's he in)
He is the guy with the really distinctive face from such films as Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Con Air, Desperado, Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs, The Wedding Singer, Armageddon . . . & almost certainly many others I can't remember.
I liked LOTR a lot, [e]specially Moria (hey! I am a dwarf where I play!). I cannot believe what I am going to say, but that movie... hmm... mumble the one where Swafdsafwereger (I think I missed a 'z' somewhere) needs to go to Mars, "As Good as it Gets", and "Memento" had better plots.
Anime? Akira, of course.
RB
Total Recall.
"Get your @$$ to Mars."
I don't think there can be a best movie ever because it just is a matter of opinion
Which the originator just asked for.
Everything is a matter of opinion.
not quite everything just most things.;D
Yes it is.
Some opinions are shared by very many people. But how does it make them more worthy? Can you be sure something is right just because a lot of people think so?
People are led by their opinions. Sometimes somebody's opinion is not accepted. Often that is not justified, for example if it's about private affairs. Other times, people do not seem to see any problem in saying that somebody's point of view is just wrong. That is the case if he speaks for murdering or running around nakedly in public areas.
Of course, we all know both is completely wrong. :-|
If you think long enough about it, you can question anything.
It's sick.
thats not quite what I was stating I was saying some things are facts and some things are opinions. like "the sun is hot", thats a fact not an opinion. thats what I was sayin.
"the sun is hot", thats a fact not an opinion
No, it isn't.
I meant, there is no facts (nor spoon).
Of course, you know the sun is hot. But everything you know is just the interpretation of your mind from the input it gets, but is there even something like your mind?
I cannot even be sure that I'm really writing this here, heck do I even exist? Is the concept of existance senible, is there something like a world?
Logical thinking nullifies any "facts". Everything is based on assumptions that work well with how most people understand the world. In physics, there are only theories...
However, how can you be sure your thinking works correct? Do you even "think"?
Best movie I have ever seen:
There is an allmost unknown movie called
"Brasil"... with Robert DeNiro, it is a
futuristic utopy, (if you guys read
1984 or Brave New World and you liked them
this movie is for you ).
The end of the movie es the best also.
Not a Hollywood ending at all. It will shock
you!

"And of course: Crouching Tiger, Momento, A Beautiful Mind, Monsters Inc, Matrix, etc ... "
I have never seen such a diverse list followed by "etc.."
"The sun is hot" isn't a fact since "hot" is relative. I'm sure it's rather frigid for supernova surfers.
Hmmm..supernova surfing might be a good idea for a game...;)
