has anyone gotten the allegro grabber to compile with the windows version of allegro?

the dos version won't recognise my sound card :( so if anyone has a windows version of the grabber it would be helpful

Mike Farrell

Sure, give me a cheap email address and I will send u mine

wingrabber.exe (132k)

Tarin

I could use that one, too! What about uploading it somewhere, I guess there are quite some people who'd like to have it. If you can't/don't want to upload it please send it to me (tarin@gmx.net). Thank you in advance.

Mike Farrell

Well, just in case this thing is really in demand (I'm dumb!). I uploaded the wingrabber.exe to my web site.

note, I strongly suggest you don't use this program to make datafiles for use with anything less than allegro 3.9.33, because the old allegro might not be able to read it...

Mike Farrell

Go figure, bad link, sorry..

this one works....

I did not like the grabber that came with 3.9.3.2. It wouldn't minimize when I needed it too.
I still use the grabber from 3.2 and it will load datafiles from newer versions if they are not compressed.

Mike Farrell

I'm talking more like using 3.9.33 to make datafiles for 3.12 :)

As far as I know, the only change is to the way fonts are stored (because of Unicode). So if there are no fonts, datafiles should be interchangeable.

Obviously, 3.9.33 can read old-style fonts.

I wasn't aware the compression algorithm had changed - or has it?

Bob

The compression algorith? No it hasn't changed. The encryption however DID change. But Allegro 3.9.33+ should still be able to read the old datafiles. The opposite isn't true. Allegro 3.12 can't read encrypted datafiles created by the latest WIPs.
