[KrampusHack 2019] Happy Usagi No Yuki Fortress, Krampus edition

I created "Happy Usagi No Yuki Fortress, Krampus edition" as a gift for Tharro. Best wishes for 2020, Tharro!

This is a sandbox game, without a win condition (The game continues forever). Your goal is to keep a bunch of bunnies happy, well-fed, and to buid a nice play environment for them out of cardboard boxes. This is a slow-paced game. Run the game in the background and come back to it every few minutes to see how your bunnies are doing.

The entry is an extension of my TINS 2016 entry with a Krampus theme and additional features based on Tharro's wishlist. As before, Max helped me out with the graphics.

Windows binary package

Tharro asked for a game that implements the reverse rule. I applied that in three different ways:

Reverse bunnies:

Reverse snow:

Reverse poem:

Some known issues, I will work on fixes but for now you'll have to work around these:

  • Screen resolution is a bit weird. In windowed mode, it will make a window of 1760x960. If your screen hardware is smaller than that, you're better off running in fullscreen mode.

  • Switching between fullscreen & windowed in the game leads to all bitmaps being moved to memory, and I haven't fixed that. Best to switch modes, then quit and restart the game to avoid lagginess

  • The mouse pointer click target finding is not very accurate, be careful when deleting expensive blocks

Enjoy!

This game is fantastic, amarillion. I always get addicted to these passive games, and I love the art style. The picking is a bit wonky, like you said, but hasn't caused much issue.

This was strangely compelling, I was pretty invested in making the bunnies hop around to high places and making me lots of money. I was exasperated at the free-loader bunnies just eating their food, while one of their brothers was jumping up and down and funding everything. I really liked the reversing bunny animation.

I absolutely love this game. Please compile an Android version and I'll have something to do on my phone all day :) Also a feature to save&continue would be nice!

In this one they all loved the Qbert area, except for Santa who took the hill to the right for himself. And they were all mortally afraid of the tube for some reason.

:D :D :D

Seriously, the bunnies pretty much follow a random walk and that makes them vanishingly unlikely to enter a remote tube like that.

I experimented a bit to increase likelihood of a bunny entering a tube when it is right next to it. But it was hard to get it balanced, with just a small tweak the bunnies would often end up in a perpetual cycle of entering/exiting a tube. So in the end I decided to scratch all that and leave it as a pure random walk, at least for the time being.

Agreed, I'll see what I can do.

Big thanks for the gift! Had already some fun playing it. Runs also much smoother than the version I found on allegro.cc (played that one already when you announced you'd do a remake).

Is there an issue with transparency though or is the green intentional?

It's the intentional temporary GUI design.... It was not supposed to be in the final version. It's always causing me trouble to design a nice GUI, I never have any inspiration for that.
