Author's Description: Zelda Classic is a combination game designer, and game player, that simulates the NES 'Legend of Zelda' gameplay style.

The present stable version is 2.50.2, with 2.53.0 in Beta, and 2.55 in Alpha; developed by DarkDragon, Dimentio, Gleeok, grayswandir, Venrob, and ZoriaRPG.

We're constantly improving the capabilities of the engine every day, with a goal of a completely flexible game-creation tool that can not only create games based on 'The Legend of Zelda', but one further capable of producing many other types of games:

Via UI oriented elements, and by a custom script engine built on Bison/Flex, that uses a C++ style of programming syntax, the game engine can be expanded to a variety of styles, producing fantasy/adventure, role-playing, sidescrolling platformer, action, arcade, and puzzle games.

The editor 'ZQuest' and the game player 'Zelda Classic' are built on the Allegro 4 libraries. First released in 2001, the current version of ZC (2.50.2, latest stable; 2.53.0, latest Beta, 2.60, latest Alpha) is still very much alive today with a vast library of hundreds of user-created games ('quests') available to download through several databases, ranging from simple 'NES Style' quests, to wholly custom and original RPG and Sidescrolling quests that utilise the advanced scripting features.

Originally developed by Phantom Menace Zelda Classic v1.0 was first released in 1999. Over the next few years, major releases included v1.84, v1.92, v2.10, and v2.50, which was programmed by:

Dark Nation, DarkDragon, Deviance, fatcatfan, Gleeok, jman2050 , joe123, Koopa, _L_, pkmnfrk, Saffith, and Takuya.

Zelda Classic version 2.50.x uses Allegro 4.2, while Zelda Classic version 2.53.0 (and later) use Allegro 4.4.3 (branch 4.4-ZCFixes).
