Category: Platform

Developers: FrankyR

Ports: Windows

Source Code: Available

Author's Description: There has been a semi-major change to the game. I noticed that the game wasn't really any fun, so I decided to try and change that a bit. I've changed the balancing of the enemies, and tured the levels into a forced scrolling type. As a result, the game is no longer as finished as it was.
This is a platform shooter that I made for a school project. Right now the player can use 4 different weapons (standard gun, machine gun, shot gun, and grenade launcher) to destroy tonnes of enemies.
There are also a variety of pickups including health and ammo.

Some special features are:
-Falling snowflakes
-Shells come out of guns when it fires
-Smooth explosion animations
-Map editor
-Enemies can be given any weapon, any powerup, and any amount of health
-Enemies has a chance to drop ammo for the weapon they are holding
-Weapons can be rotated to many different angles

What's New:

2.0a
I've changed the game to try and make it more fun. I've rebalanced the strength of the enemies, and introduced forced scrolling into the levels. It makes it a bit more fun, but now there is only one level.

I've recompilied it for Windows! It still compilies in dos of course, but it is now windows based compilied with Allegro 4.0. It should be more stable, and run a lot better.

Overall Rating: 7.3
  • 4I don't know how the game played before, but the forced scrolling can't possibly have been an improvement. In general, the gameplay is very poor. Audio is decent, so are graphics, although the characters could really use some animation. The controls aren't very good. (Especially the jump and weapon switching ones.) Abuse-style controls would probably be better (ie. move with arrow keys or WASD, aim and shoot with mouse).
  • 8An interesting game. The shell castings and explosions are really nice. The guy should move a little more smoothly and there should be more weapons.
  • 10Amazing quality game. Wow. Keep up the open source games man!
