Depot Games: The [someword] Virus

Current Version: 1.0

Project Status: Completed

Links: Web Site

Category: Action

Developers: Zaphos, Goodbytes

Ports: Windows

Source Code: Available

Author's Description: A collaboration between Goodbytes and Zaphos. This description is totally not Goodbytes' fault.

This is our Speedhack 2004 entry, slightly updated. That means it was written in 72 hours + a bit of time to patch in a bug fix and a much desired mouse-sensitivity adjustment option, so don't expect the next Great FPS, eh? It features:
Fast! 3D action in the style of Wolfenstein!
A Race against the Evil Floor Virus!
Chill Music and a happy yay sound effect!
Two Whole Enemies!
Eight Whole Levels!
Automatic progress saving so you can quit and come back for more.
"Translations" such that you can play the game with all text CAPITALIZED!!!
MORE COOL STUFF

Get it. Play it. Live it. & Etc it.

Note: Due to a confusing comment in the reviews section, I add this guide to the controls:
Left/right arrow keys & left/right mouse movements: turn side-to-side
Up/down arrow and W/S keys: move forward/backward
A/D: Strafe left/right
Spacebar or left mouse button: Fire

It is recommended that one either use the mouse and WASD keys or the arrow keys and spacebar to play.

Portability information: Linux makefile & source are provided in the zip file, but linux is not available to me at the moment to test and debug with. In theory the game should run on all platforms that Allegro, Allegro GL, and DUMB collectively run on.

Public Opinion
Overall Rating: 7.0
  • 8Graphics are ok and sound is good. There are many good ideas but it could be better: you can't do side steps, you cannot choose resolution and Fullscreen or windowed mode. And I think ennemis could be 3D models instead of 2D sprites. And fog might be better than a floor effect for the virus. I hope this will become a great game(I think it really can)
  • 6Not bad, plain menu, ok graphics, but playing was fun. A little too difficult. I kept stressing out.
