Author's Description: A 2-dimensional space combat game that preserves the feel of Star Control II while adding many new features.
The latest work-in-progress version, cur.zip, about 42 megabytes as of 2/24/2002, has all of the latest features, ships, games, etc. This is what most internet players use. Updated very frequently. Usually, but not always, reasonably stable.
A miniature version, TimeWarp Lite(TM), for those who wish a taste of SCTW without the large download size. This version is 3.5 megabytes, and is missing TONS of features, and isn't very stable. Only the Normal Melee game mode works with this version. It cannot network with normal versions of TimeWarp.
Both are available from our website.
. All 14 ships from Star Control, all 11 from Star Conrol II, and all 12 from Star Control 3, in addition more than 40 original ships (about 600 kilobytes of ship-specific code and 35 megabytes of ship-specific graphics).
. Network support (TCP/IP, 2 computer only)
. Professional quality artwork
. Pixel-perfect collisions & realistic physics
. Multiple games in 1, using the same engine: in addition to the classic Star Control Melee, there is also a game where you fight random AIs & buy upgrades at starbases, and a game where you and a networked ally fight swarms of AIs, and lots more.
. Menu options for adjusting keys, gamma correction, fleets, starfields, screen resolutions, color depths, fullscreenedness, camera modes, rendering modes, and sound & music.
. rendering options include software mip-mapping and multiple antialiasing modes.
. Configuration files allow for adjusting ship statistics, planet gravity, friendly fire, inertia, map size, game speed, & lots more.
. Open source (public domain). Full source included in the downloads.
. Portable. I have compiled it on Windows (95/98/NT4/2k), DOS, Linux, and BeOS. Users have reported successfull compiles on BSD variants. Binaries are included for DOS & Windows.
. Joystick support, tons of user documentation, lots of developer documentation, command line options, keyjamming tester, diagnostics screen, an IRC channel for meeting internet players,
