They're not getting paid, and they have bills to pay. I'd be striking if the lame ass government was doing shit like this. The senators still get paid, even if they don't get anything done, and they like not to. My Website! | EAGLE GUI Library Demos | My Deviant Art Gallery | Spiraloid Preview | A4 FontMaker | Skyline! Thomas Fjellstrom said: Did you point out that that's blatantly false? They can, and will look at it for any arbitrary reason they fell like. Indeed, but why would they look at information about little ol' me? I have nothing to hide, I have nothing to fear. Its strange but most people I know feel this way. I don't think its Americans being extra stupid. They're just being human. Now if there were to be electrical/water/food shortages, there would be riots. But the government intercepting data? Who even cares. In capitalist America bank robs you. |

While I actually feel the same, it's not entirely correct that "you've nothing to hide so you've nothing to fear". I stress it, I feel and generally act the same, but your own personal data can be misused, so a little bit of a protection would be very much appreciated. What you say/do/write in "private" equals to some degree what you think and I guess NO ONE would like to have someone share its thoughts w/o permission. It is unlikely that Google shares your distaste for capitalism. - Derezo |

Suppose you're being treated for an embarrassing medical condition? You've been meeting your secretary for some extracurricular activity? You've been sending out resumes without your employers knowledge? It's been shown that an NSA underling can go through your records there without restriction, just suppose he can go in for a little blackmail? They all watch too much MSNBC... they get ideas. |

Without even blackmailing getting in, one should not feel uncomfortable for looking for a better employment of for treating his ED....just saying. It is unlikely that Google shares your distaste for capitalism. - Derezo |

Other countries feel a lot stronger about things than americans (and canadians) do. We are pretty flacid about these matters. Eh, I said decent, not good, or great. I'm talking 3-6mbps. not 15-100+. -- |

These days, 6mbps is only good if you're in a rural area. My mom lives in the middle of nowhere in NovaScotia and is actually able to get 3mbps wireless. I was happy about that when I went out to visit. I get 100mbps. {"name":"3018025397.png","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/7\/8\/78aacf42317ecb99bcfa942a46e20744.png","w":300,"h":135,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/7\/8\/78aacf42317ecb99bcfa942a46e20744"} My ISP also has a 250mbps plan that they are rolling out. And is also slowly rolling out Gbps FTTH (Fiber To the Home). Here in alberta, you're lucky to get decent dialup out of town. And thats after we paid big telecom companies to wire the country up with fiber. Bunch of ass hats. -- |

Just got satellite internet installed today. The latency is atrocious. {"name":"3018501830.png","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/3\/3\/3369c2ae84fa5966401826b57dc1a2ca.png","w":300,"h":135,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/3\/3\/3369c2ae84fa5966401826b57dc1a2ca"} My Website! | EAGLE GUI Library Demos | My Deviant Art Gallery | Spiraloid Preview | A4 FontMaker | Skyline! I like the speed I get. They have faster plans, but I see no need for faster at this time. {"name":"3018985048.png","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/3\/3\/33fa0dd92d8766f1001d7eca2c8d26b8.png","w":300,"h":135,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/3\/3\/33fa0dd92d8766f1001d7eca2c8d26b8"} --- |

If I could swap this 30Mbps Charter Cable connection for a 6Mbps connection that didn't disconnect two or five times a night, I'd do it in a heartbeat. They all watch too much MSNBC... they get ideas. |

Well okay, no disconnections whatsoever in the last 5+ years is reasonable. OTOH I'd LOVE to get a wireless connection..... It is unlikely that Google shares your distaste for capitalism. - Derezo |

What the hell are the aboe results? I thought only Israel is so fucked to have about 10:1 down:up ratio :S {"name":"3019877686.png","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/a\/4\/a46f3a48625d0714dcc4a37d6b74dbcc.png","w":300,"h":135,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/a\/4\/a46f3a48625d0714dcc4a37d6b74dbcc"}

type568 said: What the hell are the aboe results? I thought only Israel is so fucked to have about 10:1 down:up ratio :S Nope, its pretty much the norm in north america. They do it because they can. It used to be a technical issue with Cable internet, but they've since fixed it in DocSis 3 using channel bonding. Except providers have decided they don't want to fix it. -- |

Slow upload speed served a legitimate purpose in preventing people from abusing file sharing, etc. But it's an outdated concept now that there are a lot of legitimate reasons to need fast upload. |

nah, it was purely a technical limitation. they didn't have capacity because they didn't think they'd need it. Same goes for the tech, they build ADSL and DocSis to favour downstream over upstream, cause they didn't think they'd need it. Future Proofing how does it work. -- |
