I've been given the green light at my jorb to work on my own solo app projects. Yay! Of course, this means I can't use any of the tools provided to me by the company, namely my MacBook Pro. I've got a few app ideas, but currently my work laptop is my only mac device that I can use for development. I guess I will need to get like a MacMini or something like that. Any suggestions? The only concern is price and the ability to develop. I can use my windows machine to do any photoshop work, internet browsing, etc. I just need something xcode will work with so I can write code, compile and run on my iPhone. ------------ |

Mac mini is the cheapest option. For the reasons you need it, don't see a reason to get anything better. --- |

One possibility might be running OSX natively on your X86 PC. Google osx86 if you're interested in something like that. Agui GUI API -> http://code.google.com/p/agui/ |

If price is the main concern, go with the mac mini. I would recommend getting a new or newish used one. Get one that'll run OS X 10.7 at least. It should be just fine for iOS development. I'm still using a 3+ year old macbook myself and don't have any plans on buying a new one yet. Oh, and I'd recommend 4GB of ram in it. If eating hotdogs is wrong, I don't wanna be right. |

Forget ipod development, go for Android. It's the future. Plus for a hobbyist there's no costly yearly fees. Neil. wii:0356-1384-6687-2022, kart:3308-4806-6002. XBOX:chucklepie |

An entry-level MacBook Air isn't that much more expensive than a mini. You get the added benefit of it being self contained and not having to plug and unplug stuff all the time. If you have a job, I can't imagine money would be too much of an issue. |

I use a Mac Mini (server) for this because it has the smallest footprint (I always have it plugged into a monitor) and is the fastest for the price. |
