Afaik, that was never their hamburgers. It was the nuggets. And they stopped using that years ago.

No the link in the picture says they stopped using it recently. Like a month ago. No wonder those chicken nuggets are all shaped like that. I guess its been torn into so many pieces its probably a lump of greasy sand.

Looks good. Is it healthy?

Rarely is processed food healthy.

Snopes might not always be the most reliable source, but it sounds about right this time. McDonalds stopped using the process above 2003, and they have never been "ammonia based". It's just silly FUD...

That is the point of off-topic thread posts :p.

This is why they shouldn't be allowed to advertise their burgers as 100% beef. It might be 100% beef technically but 15% of it is this shit.

processed food

Ah, "processed food". A definitionless term only used in weak appeals to nature.

The "pink slime" in the OP image instantly reminded me of "spork" in Leisure Suit Larry 7. And I wouldn't have a problem with them using ammonia to process the meat because it's so volatile there's little chance it would still be there when you eat it (and if it were there, you'd certainly smell it). I habitually dump a bit of chlorine bleach in dishwater for sanitizing and everybody goes "Eeewww! That's poison!" and I reply "The chlorine salts rinse off with the soap just fine!".

I really admire the U.S. Constitution. It's so much better than what we have now.

That's actually the same colour and consistency of their milk shakes. I wonder if they just add strawberry flavouring to it?

Supposedly they add chicken feathers to their shakes.

Its just that after seeing the stuff look like paste makes one wonder what percentage of that was actually nutritious meat and the rest cartilage and other non essential parts of beef. And thats the problem, plus its just nasty.

Feather meal?

You should see the movie called "The Stuff". Its a cheesy 80's B-sci-fi-horror film.

I remember reading that bologna is almost all lard, and they add something to it to make it hang together.

If it has sodium nitrite, I don't eat it anymore.

I don't understand why people still go to McDonald's. I know there's a "fat Americans" stereotype to keep up, but it's got to be common knowledge by now that the food there is one step above dung mixed with rat poison and cooked with gamma radiation in terms of nutritional value.

Ammonia is used in a huge amount of food preparation. If you want to avoid it, avoid Wal-Mart and every major restaurant in existence.

If they didn't crowd the animals together so tightly into feedlots etc. then they wouldn't have the salmonella and e. coli. problems. OTOH, I think e. coli. isn't a problem in itself, it just shows that where the easily tested e. coli. can grow, other pathogens can also grow. You have quite a collection of e. coli. in your guts right now.

Walmart has no "real" food and I can't afford to go out so...

I don't understand why people still go to McDonald's.

Its the most profitable fast food joint in the world. Its #1? No kidding.

I'm pretty sure this level of corporate sickness will go on until meat can be grown in a test tube for consumption on a mass scale.

That makes it red, so it looks more like meat.

I thought that was a preservative.

I went through the McDonald's drive-thru tonight since this thread reminded of how disgusting and awesome their food is.

Ordered a typical meal. Get up to the window and they hand me large fries. Then closed the window.

So I sit there. They come back. "Uhm, this is not what I ordered. Why would I only order large fries?" So I tell them what I ordered. "Did you pay for it??" they ask. ::)

I pull ahead and wait. They come out with my sandwich and fries. "Where's my drink?" :-[
