I know some drivers allow for adding of black bars on the sides to support such games, but I checked and it's not an option in the driver version I'm using (as far as I can tell).

I can't stand those bars on the sides. On top, like in movies, it's ok, you have it in cinemas as well. But those vertical ones are not. Probably even worse is if the game engine cannot handle the aspect ratio correctly.

My monitor has a very simple setting for that problem. I can set it to scale everything full screen, or to scale everything to the maximum size preserving aspect ratio (I assume it assumes square pixels), or to display everything 1:1. No driver support required.

So you prefer to have everything horizontally stretched instead ???.

What monitor is this?

Well under my Vista desktop I just have a black solid color. Once in a while I put something else up. I'll put up my favorite wallpaper I found for my old monitor.

Catch ridicule for this one: http://twitpic.com/8drccp
Theme was nice, but it locked up OS too much: http://twitpic.com/8drcht

Nope, on the contrary, my pet peeve is the wrong aspect ratio. So far, however, I wasn't playing any game that would require the black bars. The main issue is that the bars aren't totally black, because black on the monitor simply isn't black, it glows.

Add curtains 8-).

Now that I know that monitors themselves have this feature, I might get a widescreen monitor myself one day.

I'd say you have the brightness turned up too high and contrast too low. When the blank screensaver on mine is in a darkened room, it's obviously giving out light, but when there's something to see I don't notice the black glowing.

I really admire the U.S. Constitution. It's so much better than what we have now.

I've seen trees like that from caterpillars, are you sure those are spider webs?

I'm with Trent on that one. We have trees around here during summer that have chunks of the tree like that and it is just caterpillar silk not spiders.

I don't have a single person from here on my FB page. Didn't think anyone here even bothered with it.

Trent it was Pakistan http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/01/spiderwebs-in-trees-pakistan-floods_n_843521.html

Googled to double check it was spiders and not caterpillars.
