| My 3.5G Internet Company is a bItch |

It all started when my father decided to buy something related to computers without asking me before. He decides to go and buy a 3.5 Mobile Internet Service, and they give him a Huawei Mobile Connect 3.5 G modem. After a month he used it, he told me the Internet didn't work anymore, and gave it to me. I wondered, what could possible be wrong? The Modem was in good condition. But when I connected it, Oh surprise! An internet connection of 3,2 Mbps working like a fucking old dial-up. But that's not enough, for no apparent reason, the modem disconnects itself like every 5 minutes. To the surprise of my dad, he didn't read the whole contract when he got the service, and he got screwed with a 1 year long service, and if he decides to leave it, he has to pay a fine. Also, the contract they gave him wasn't UPDATED, as the one in the official website was. This updated contracted included a condition that if he downloaded more than 3 GB(Counting every data traffic) in a month, the speed would be reduced by the company to a 128 kbps connection, and it would be restored to normal in the next month. Even when the damn contract says on the title, Unlimited! It didn't surprise me that even when the next month came, the connection did got restored, but a lot slower. It works like a fucking 512 KB connection. Calling to the Technical support didn't help, just giving me shitty answers like "The problem is with your software", or "Your Windows Version might be wrong". Ok, let's ask old friend Google. Nothing... Absolutely No Solution. Apparently, thousands of other users had the same problem, but no one knew the solution. Next Month, as reducing my connection speed and disconnecting every minute wasn't enough, a new problem appears. Every time I wanted to download something, it redirected to a URL 404 Not Found. Also, P2P connections didn't work. You can imagine my head burning in fire when I found this surprise. But, there's a new hope. After fiddling with it for a month, I find a clue. Whenever I reconnected the modem, the connection worked like a 3,2 Mbps, and some seconds later, the speed gets totally reduced. I've been able to download files that allow resuming with this trick, but I need a LOT of patience. Any suggestions in how to cheat this modem? After all, my father's getting really screwed with paying such a high monthly fee for an ugly dial-up connection. TranslatorHack 2010, a human translation chain in a.cc. |

^ I really hope I don't have to do this. Anyway, I'm not the one who has to pay it monthly, but it's so unfair, because one of my friends also got screwed with that kind of modem(but another company) and they do the same fucking limit TranslatorHack 2010, a human translation chain in a.cc. |

Simply put, you folks just got your asses reamed by the service provider that has capped your connection (with what apparently are very shady methods). The Huawei HSDPA modems aren't actually all that bad as far as cellular modems go. They work most of the time. It's just the cellular network is inherently unsuitable for a heavy broadband user because of all SPs like to overbook. You don't deserve my sig. |

512 KB connection is way faster than dialup. |

If normal tech support isn't helping, I'd suggest an EECB. Executive Email Carpet Bomb. Get as long a list as you can of the executives at the company. Write up a strong, well-written, and well-mannered email, to send to that list. If I were in the same position, I wouldn't write into the email any technical details, or at least very few. Rather, I'd target the idea that I wasn't getting what I paid for. I wouldn't hint at any legal action; just a nicely written letter that explains my problems, complaints, and asks for help. Of course, legal action is always an action you could take if you feel the company is breaking the contract. Probably your father isn't paying much for it, so I'd suggest avoiding legal action and just using letters and phone calls (as many as it takes) to resolve the issue. _________________________________________________ |

I think we could follow what many other people did. Go to DDC(Defensa del Consumidor, IDK something similar in English, but it's a government organization that defends the right of customers), and they would take any action to Nullify the contract and getting paid the months I lost with this POS. No suggestions for what I wrote in the last paragraph? I think it's something to note. TranslatorHack 2010, a human translation chain in a.cc. |

You know, its not their fault your father failed to read the whole contract... I mean, you just don't trust a website like that. You just have to read the fine print! ALWAYS! But good luck anyway, I doubt you'll get anything out of it. -- |

Why don't you get DSL or Cable or something? You're stuck with crappy wireless? Only thing worse would be dialup or satellite. |

Is it this modem? There is some info on the drivers/firmware on there. EDIT: You could try to get it functioning in Linux (boot Ubuntu off a LiveCD) and see if the problems persist. _________________________________________________ |

My grandparents have satellite due to their rural location...I wish such pain upon no man --- |

I'm going to be back on a shared 28.8Kbps connection for (maybe) two months. |

Yeah, axilmar's got a point there. Spend even more money on lawyers! Great idea! -- |

In Sweden that is the normal agreement in 3G contracts (5Gb instead of 3GB though, at least with Telia ISP). Suing the ISP would be just stupid if the cap is stated in the contract. Like so, the time you bind yourself to the service. When claim say 3G modems you get 7Mbit/sec, that is the theoretical speed. In reality it is nowhere near that. ___________________________________________ |

I did not say anything about suing them. It's not something I'd ever consider at all. I don't even have enough money for something like that. If I want to cancel the service, I can go to the organization I referred before(DDC). But I was asking if anyone has an idea of how to cheat them with what I discovered recently(as soon as I connect it, it works as it should for about 10 seconds.) Let me guess, Claro? Huawei modems are great, it's their backend who has probably gone bonkers... ----- |

They have very similar terms over here, and the service level seems to be similar as well ----- |

Good news! I was able to dump this damn 3.5G Mobile Service(didn´t got the money back, but didn´t have to pay the fine). Now I got a new Internet ADSL connection. It works just fine. Not glorious, but it does the job. It works pretty smooth(submitted my CH entry today in little time). Hope I don´t run in any "surprise" next month EDIT: BTW, it´s another Huawei Modem.
