Great game! what libraries are you using? has it accelerated hardware graphics support? did you make the graphics? how many time it took you? it looks very very polished, the menues and the help screen, it really looks like a commercial game.

Thanks a lot!
Yeah, I've been working on this project for quite a while now... around 6 months on and off...

A friend of mine made the music, and I did mostly everything else, including the graphics (which I kinda suck at making.. but tried my best...)

I'm using the normal allegro lib (4.2) and really worked on smoothing everything as much as I could so everything will flow nicely.

Don't say that. It makes a tiny part of my artistic soul die. What you've made is far better than what I've made.

Is this a kind of 2D version of narbacular drop/portal?

This is a very high quality game. I've only played to level 3 so far, but it's very good. I think the graphics are very nice as well, they really fit in with the game. The gameplay is very smooth and so far the puzzles have been good.

The only fault I have is that I accidently skipped the first bit of dialog because I pressed ENTER (I didn't realize that it continued the dialog automagically). Although, the problem was nullified when I opened the Help menu and saw the controls. Maybe an option for remapping the controls on the main menu (or at least something to view the controls) would be a nice addition.

I look forward to finding some time during which I can play through the rest of your game.

Kikaru:
No worries... I can definitely say that I worked very hard on the gfx, and that was one of the hardest parts for me to do... photoshop and me definitely don't go hand in hand.. :-/

Neil:
Temporal, while being a puzzle platformer like Portal, has nothing to do with portals.. however, it has a lot to do with time travel - once you get to around the 6th episode, you'll see what I mean.
So sorta, its the same puzzle platformer genre. (and I'm highly flattered that my game got mentioned in the same sentence as portal ;))

Jeff:
That's a very good point.
I think I'll simply block the player from pressing ENTER at the very first dialog (the one before you see the help screen), unless the first episode was already finished once before.

Very nice job you did there. The graphics, music, and puzzles are all great. It does look very polished as others have said. And there are quite a few levels.

So you used no other libraries? Not even for maps or scripting?

One of the best games I've played that use Allegro. Great Job! The graphics, once again, are great. It doesn't skimp on gameplay either. There are a number of small touches that really help make it look great, and it has all the features I could ask for. The only thing I could possibly suggest is a confirmation box for restarting, even though it isn't really needed. Yay, now I get to do the other 27 levels!;D

You did a really good job. I enjoyed playing your game. It's very polished, and the graphics are pleasing to the eye. What exactly is there left to do?

Elverion: I didn't use anything except allegro and allegromp3 for the music..
I created the levels using a (very bad and barely working) level editor that I made a long time ago for some other game, and converted it a bit to my needs here..
Everything else, the animation sequencing, the sound effects with spatial panning, and the collision/friction/movement engine was created from scratch.

There main story (the 30 episodes) is pretty much done, even including an ending / credits and whatnot.
However, during the game, you can unlock a few 'bonus' stages, and these are not in this version at all (started working on them.. will take a couple of weeks I'm guessing).

I'm very happy to hear that you like the game,
it would be cool of someone gets to around episode 6, and checks out the true uniqueness of this puzzle platformer ;)

Just reached level 7, causing a grand total of zero time paradoxes along the way.

I've reached level 7, too. It's a really challenging game (now I undesrtand why you call it puzzle platformer).

I had 3 time paradoxes and didn't quite understand what those were until they were explained at the beginning of level 7.

The default game speed is a bit too slow, I think. I find myself pressing KEY_F to play faster just to find that I was already playing in the fast mode. It would be nice if you could play at the same speeds that you can replay (in particular when pushing those large blocks).

The levels must have been hard to design with that gameplay in mind since they are really challenging. As of level 7, my brain really needs a rest. Luckily, you included THE tip for each level (just wish I had realized that earlier).

I usually suck at puzzles, so I can't be sure if I'll be able to get to the later levels. The current levels I'm playing seem to hard already, so I can't imagine the difficulty of more advanced ones.

Great work in accomplishing this, by the way. Congratulations!.

I found a strange bug- if you press enter right after you die, instead of pressing R, U, or Esc, the game will freeze and the music start skipping until you CTR-ALT-DEL out of it. Basically, it crashes.

EDIT:
Just beat level 7. God, that was hard.

kenmasters1976:
You are probably right, I think I'll add a 'fastest' game play speed, so 'F' will rotate between the 3 speeds.
The lower speed is because in some places you'll want a lower speed to fine tune your movement or time things better.

Kikaru:
I see that you are progressing nicely ;)
Thanks for finding that bug!!
Fortunately, it was easy to find and fix.
Just make sure you don't press enter on the death screen in your version ;)
Thanks again... oh, and yes, episode 7 was one of the longest and hardest 'physical' wise episodes - so grats!

Wow, that's really great game. With cute graphics. :)

Just got to lvl 15 and will stop playing for a while now.

Imo one thing could be changed - there are few moments where you need to wait for dialogue to end. If you wait, you'll have much worse score. Maybe timer should be stopped then?
And I think that lvl 14 was a bit too much (timing && luck) mix. Many times I almost finished it but the firing thing didn't shoot at the right moment.

Btw, is there any bonus for rescuing Milps?

Renboy

Thanks man :)

About 14.. its actually not that hard if you figure out a certain trick that gives you much more freedom and time... (if you actually did it without that trick.. you are really really good with timing, I couldn't do it myself like that).

About the milps - there will be, yes, I'm working on it now, each milp you get will open a bonus stage, that you can access anytime. (on the version you got though, no bonus stages exist.)

And about dialogs.. its true that if you wait, your score will be worse; but people who want to get good scores will probably just play it again, and skip all the dialogs to get the best score possible.
I tried to make the dialogs blend nicely into the game without stopping the action you see on screen - it makes things feel more natural and flowing (at least I hope so ;))

Anyway, thanks again, and good luck with the rest :)

I too am really impressed with the game (though I'm still to get past level 1 :-[). It's very well presented and plays smoothly. No chance to spot any bugs, but I'll keep at it...

I have to delete the replays directory every time I play, or I get the follwoing error on startup: "Fatal error - Unable to create replays directory!"

This is on Vista, if that helps.

Reminds me a lot of Chronotron. The game concept is awesome and your game is very neat and polished. I wouldn't be surprised if I play this game from time to time. The only thing that annoys me so far is the load time at start up, with my lap top I have to wait a while before I can play.

Just echoing the sentiments. This game is beautiful! I'll definitely be playing through this when I get the chance.
