SpeedHack 2007 Binaries, Beta 1

The Windows binaries for SpeedHack 2007 are up on the SpeedHack website.

If you submitted a game, you are responsible for making sure your own entry in the official binary package works. A few were not built and include error logs. Others crashed during gameplay (sometimes immediately).

I will not be contacting anybody; if you find that your game is not working, send me a private message. Please read the included error.log (if applicable) and/or try to think of reasons why it is crashing (if applicable) before sending me a message. I will not respond to any other forms of communication regarding this matter. If you do not have access to Windows, then you'll need to work with someone who does.

Do not contact me about other people's entries. I will not look into any problems unless reported by the person who made the game. So if you are having problems with a game that you did not make, contact the developer.

I want the binary package finalized by Monday the 24th, so don't delay.

And of course, this is just a convenience package. If for whatever reason your entry is still broken in the final binary package, it doesn't mean you are disqualified from winning any of the categories. It just means people will have to try to compile the game themselves or rely on your own binary on your own website.

Update: The second third fourth beta is up. The most notable change is that all of the OpenLayer projects have been recompiled with version 2.1 and libpng has been rebuilt. If you've sent me a message and haven't heard back, there's no need to post the same thing.

Regarding the updated version, the games which did not work before (presumably those which use OpenLayer -- is that was mgwz.dll is for?) still do not work in Vista. Your fix may have been in vain.

Edit: They still crash, that is.

Oh, so it's Vista's fault non of the binaries worked for me? Well, my desktop should be back tomorrow or the next day, so I'll try on XP.

It's not just vista, "Evil" and "Drive Infection" (and possibly others) crash on start on WinXPProSP2 here, yet their own stand alones binaries work.

Am I to assume I simply don't get a binary in the package? The source is in there, but there's no error.log, so I assume there were no problems attempting to compile it...

While there is no log, note the prior sentence:

Not runnable qualifies as "not working".

I've gotten about two of the binaries ML posted to work, non of the others. Almost all of the binaries posted by the creators work for me. I'm confused.

The irony is that Matthew did in fact contact me about including the game in the pack to begin with, and at the time there didn't seem to be any problems, which is why this is so confusing. But, y'know, I can't really "read the included error.log (if applicable) and/or try to think of reasons why it is crashing (if applicable) before sending [Matthew] a message" if there is no such thing. I'm stumped.

Wrong Allegro DLL perhaps?

I would assume you can safely skip the log step if there is no log. no?

Maybe... when I got it they all asked for the alleg42.dll, and that's the one I gave them. Maybe they'll run on my desktop (it could be back today!!)

BTW, congratulations to all those who completed and submitted! As I said, I decided it was best to back out about 7 hours before the competition ended. I could've finished in 4 hours, but it would have been a little ugly (the dialogue stuff and other little tidbits like the title screen), and I didn't want to interfere with my actual job.

As for my game, I don't regret it at all. I feel it was waaay better than last year's sh game I managed to submit. It was a puzzle game where there were "victims" you had to roll over with a ball o' spikes. The ball had a starting location and you had to place magnets on the field to try and move the ball to maximum carnage. Running over a magnet destroyed it, changing the magnetic field. It would've been pretty sweet. ;D

Instead, it'll probably never see the light of day. I'd like to continue some of my bigger projects that have been on hold due to lack of motivation. Now I feel rejuvenated!

Would've posted in the off topic thread, but it seems I still have a post cap. :-X

Hmm, It seems Matt may have an outdated version of OpenLayer, or the binaries (if they're there, the site appeared to have lost those when I downloaded OpenLayer, and had to compile everything myself anyway) are not in sync with the source posted there.

[edit] Was using Beta 1, the third compiled.
