Which movies do you like the most?

Most of my favourite films aren't even English speaking films.

One name: Luc Besson. :)

Also a year or two ago I saw a couple of interesting non English speaking films: The Swimming Pool and Intermission. Well, The Swimming Pool was half English, half French. And Intermission was all English but in a completely impossible to understand Irish accent. The first time I watched it (no subtitles) I couldn't understand 10% of what was said. The second time I got closer to 50%. :)

He does do some great stuff. Atlantis would have to be the most beautiful movie I've ever watched.

Actually, I've seen The Swimming Pool. The elder of the two female leads spoke French slowly enough that I could actually understand some of it from what I learnt in high-school. I find this is usually the case with non-native French speakers, but I can hardly make out a single word when a real Frenchman gets going.

Another great one I just remembered (I usually forget about films very quickly, so if I remember, it must be really good):

Shallow Grave

She IS a native French speaker. I think.

Nope, Charlotte Rampling is English.

Just to name a few off the top of my head:
The Shawshank Redemption
Lucky Number Slevin
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Gladiator

Yes, but "she was educated at Jeanne d'Arc Académie pour Jeunes Filles in Versailles, France", she lives in Paris and was married for 20 years to Jean Michel Jarre, so I think her French should be quite authentic. I think your problem is actually with the many different accents and subtypes of colloquial French. :)

And with the definition of native speaker. ;)

Whatever the reason, I was surprised at how easily I understood her. And she's certainly retained her British accent when she speaks English.

I did't believe John Woo could direct a bad movie but Paycheck proved without a doubt that I was wrong, big time.

I can name a few of my favourite movies off the top of my head:
*El Mariachi
*Equilibrium
*Gattaca
*Taxi 2
*Leon
*Predator 2
*Häjyt

You don't deserve my sig.

I had to resist as well. There have only been two good adaptions of PKD books - Blade Runner, and A Scanner Darkly.

Another one I saw recently that was extremely good:

25th Hour (Spike Lee)

Strange, no one mentioned "A clockwork Orange". Book and movie were great.

By reading this sig, I, the reader, agree to render my soul to Bob Keane. I, the reader, understand this is a legally binding contract and freely render my soul.

You're right! How did I forget that one? And Dr Strangelove.

Meh, you all forgot The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, although the book was much better than the movie... and you were asking for movies... nevermind.

I didn't like the movie at all.

Fair enough! It's probably not your type of movie if you give the Da Vinci Code 4/5. :P Oh, forgot to mention "A Beautiful Mind", which I thought was a rather good movie too.

I don't think it's that easy. :) Didn't you agree with any of the movies I liked? Because I do like "A Beutiful Mind" a lot. It's on my fours list. And the difference between the fours and the fives is really small.

I saw it (by chance) on TV about a year ago. On the TV schedule page they wrote it was a comedy. ::)

They sure knew what they were doing. ;D

I didn't think it was anything special.

Gladiator

Great! :)

Crash

It was good all right. You're Swedish, try out Filmtipset.se if you're short of things to do sometime. :)

Leon

Agreed! It's great! I didn't like the extended directors cut though. It focuses more on the pedophile aspect od Leon's relation with the little girl.

I liked M. Night's new one a lot, "A Lady in the Water." Although, I doubt many others will like it, just a select few.

And I don't care what anyone says, I enjoy the Matrix. I put the first one in whenever I need some inspiration to work on bigger projects. Yeah, overrated blah blah blah, I'll just imagine punching you over a thosand times in both slow and fast motion at the same time. :P

Oh, and Princess Bride ftw! ;D

[edit]
Scratch that, anything by Hayao Miyazaki is my favorite movie. :-X

    Not really.

I still need to see Perfume, I've heard good things about it. Did I mention Memoirs of a Geisha yet as a good movie?
I saw Casino Royale. 't was ok, but I didn't think it was specifically good. Maybe I'm just not a big action movie fan.
