Ponk So I decided to release my very first game to the public. Now, the last change log entry says "25 August 2005" so why wait over a year to release it? To be honest, I've been hesitating because it's embarrassing that this is what I show after all my years of programming. I realized last year that I had to do something to stop my endless cycle of getting ideas, coding, getting bigger ideas, failing and quitting. Over and over again. And so I decided to start small. Very small. But at least I consider this game to be fairly polished. And I remember Johan Peitz long ago advised me to just get something out there because it does make a psychological difference to you. So critique away, that's how we learn right? Here's some EXCITING screenshots: {"name":"ponk_3.png","src":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/a\/b\/abba4108553bb800d328c8e8253aaf48.png","w":320,"h":200,"tn":"\/\/djungxnpq2nug.cloudfront.net\/image\/cache\/a\/b\/abba4108553bb800d328c8e8253aaf48"} And the download details: Depot page - Queued for now. Krumbling Kremlin I was going to release my Tetris clone at the same time but just found out that joypads aren't set to usable defaults. Oh the joy of looking through old code! Here's a screenshot to waste your bandwidth though: EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot. Let's pretend I'm 14 and just moved up from Visual Basic. That'll make things so much easier on me! |

I like the pong game, I like the simple graphics reminiscent of the original with a good easy to use menu screen. I didn't like the way that the paddle movement accelerated with either the keys or mouse, it would feel more natural if the paddle was tied to the mouse position but this may make it too easy unless the CPU player also got faster, so I don't know what the answer is there. Nice job. Was the copyright serious? |

Thank you! I might remove the acceleration from the paddle. It was just an experiment to make it feel more "fluid". Heard similar comments about that from another guy. I really just want it to be a faithful reproduction of the game anyway. As for the copyright: No, not really. But I do believe that anything you make is automatically copyrighted? I had my doubts initially about it first since this is just a copy of someone else's work but decided to include it anyway to show who did it and when. The source code is public domain. |
